Packing for a Short Trip

My minimal set for capturing "who knows what".

Domke 5xb
Zeiss Ikon RF
CV 35/2.5, ZM 50/2, Jupiter 9 85/2
Bogen/Manfratto tabletop tripod with extension column
Cable release
Maybe a couple of B&W filters for the 50 (Yellow Green and an Orange)

If I'm with people or photos are not the primary goal, a 35mm or 50mm lens on a Bessa winds up being minimal. Though these days, my Agfa Isolette III with its Solinar 75/3.5 is not only more compact but I get a bigger negative, a bit slower to work though.

I just got back from a trip to Texas in which I packed the following:

MP
Canon 35/2
Zeiss 50/1.5 ZM
Leica 90/2.8 Tele-Elmarit

Mamiya 6 + 50, 75, and 150.

Tripod.

Sekon L-308s

25 rolls of 35 and 120 films.

Everything but the tripod and film was stuffed into a Domke bag (the model name had a 4 in it, can't remember it off the top of my head). It was too much stuff... never again. I would have left the MF stuff at home, but I had a specific intention for the Mamiya. My next trip is a road trip right after the first of the year and I'll only take the following:

MP, 35, 50, 90. Maybe a flash if I get one, probably the Sekonic again as well. That fits comfortably into my Domke 803.

I am using now the CV 25mm/4 lens often, and I also used the J-3 and today the Canon 35mm/1.8. I have not touched the 85mm lens yet.
Having a light kit makes it manageable to carry it, while pushing a stroller and also handling other issues around me.

Greetings from the Great Smoky Mountains!

Bearing in mind my soon-to-materialize Leica minimalistic 35mm outfit:
1. A non-dedictaed trip (family, not dedicated to photo) or everyday walkabout - M6 + Summicron 50mm/2.
2. A family trip with semi-dedication to photo - M6+50mm/2 summicron + Yashica TLR (the latter is great for environmental portraiture), optional - tripod
3. Dedicated photo trip (heavy-loaded) - my LF (4x5) setup + tripod, might be backed up by Leica.

I'm leaving for 18 days hiking in New Zealand on Boxing Day and my travel/hike light kit will be Hexar RF with 28 and 50 hex lenses. Last year it was my 21 and 35 cv lenses.

My favorite travel kit is the Bessa L with the CV 25/4 and CV 15/4.5 lenses plus a little Sony W-5 digital P&S as a backup. No camera bag; I carry everything in my pockets or in my Timbuk2 bags with the rest of my things (guidebooks, maps, lunch, etc.). Most of the photos in my Paris and Amsterdam galleries were made with this kit.

If the trip involved more "people pictures" and fewer cityscapes or landscapes I might swap the Bessa L for the Bessa R or even the Kiev.

In no event would I leave home without the little digicam. It's an essential travel companion. Say what you will about digital but it has saved my bacon a few times.
