Film pressure plate Z-C

Quick question: Would the film pressure plate of a Zorki 5 fit the one of a Zorki C? They are both bottom loaders, but they are developped both in another stage.

The Zorki-5 pressure plate is different from the one used by Zorki-C. The latter used, like the ones found in Zorki-1, a 'band-aid' shaped plate. The PP's found in Leica and Canon are similarly shaped. The Zorki-5 plate is missing the top, rounded portion found in the original plates.

The Zorki-5 PP may fit into the Zorki-C, but it may not be able to function properly since it is missing a top portion which may be essential to the way it presses the film flat on the film gate.

Thanks for the reply. I've bought the Zorki C to use the shutter and the body for a broken Fed 1. Its top is deformed and someone tried to make it flat again by using a hammer... The deformation makes it impossible for the Fed to function properly, so I dicided to reassemble the Zorki C. In the hope I'll find the right parts that are missing someday 🙂

Valkir, would that mean you have a FED 1 with a good rangefinder in it that you can't use? I have a FED 1 that's in good condition but with a very faint rangefinder that I'd like to replace...Could you be persuaded to sell? Or does anyone else have such a part? Even the half-mirror...

Valkyr, the FED won't likely fit into the ZorkiC. You'd need another FED to do that. There are minor variations in the body shell stamping and other internal parts which prevents cross-transplants.

For the shutter, you could get a new set of straps and blinds. It is not good to use an old shutter from an equally old camera. It will likely break soon and be reason for another disassembly.

Speaking of FED repairs, I have 6 FED-1 bodies which I am in the process of repairing now. One FED, a prewar with 6-digit serial number, is missing a winding knob. Its original had its gears badly stripped. Another FED is missing its pressure plate. The FED pressure plates are perfectly round, unlike the 'band-aid' shapes found in Zorki (although the first Zorki also had round PPs).

Wolves: a semi-transparent mirror (50R/50T) could be ordered from Edmunds scientific. You can cut one to size - approx 8x10mm - and fit this in your FED's RF. The mirror need not be exact in specs as the original, as long as it fits into the RF box, it should work.

Zorkikat, Thanks for your reply, I noticed the differences between the camera's. I've repaired two Zorki -1 camera's and one Fed -1 camera so far, its a great hobby. I keep looking on for another broken Fed to use. 🙂

Wolves, I'm keeping the rangefinder parts for some other cameras, but you may find something usefull somewhere else.
