I think I found the answer in another thread.

Does this FED have a standard thread pitch?

Hi all, It's my understanding that early FEDs have non-standard thread pitch, and that lenses were matched to the camera. Do people think that this is the case for the camera below? I'm thinking of buying it and would like to use my Jupiter 12 on it...

And here you can see a Fed 1b with a circular plug on the back for focus adjustment (obviously through the hole in the pressure plate, like some of you wrote).

It seems that Fed dropped the circular plug in later models but had left over pressure plates with the hole in it. Early Feds were really exact copies of Leicas. 😁
