Leica LTM 50 Summicron F2 Collap Or 50 Summarit F1.5 for my Canon P

Hi everyone Happy new year a bit late but this is my frist thread in this year. Now i use Canon VT with 50mm 1.8 is good for me but now i got one more body is Canon P and i'd like to have one more 50mm lens with it too. so have anyone ever used 50mm Summicron F2 collap and 50mm Summarit 1.5?
1.How is it both lens?
2.which one is better for shooting the Color and B&W?
3.Do you know the link for lens test? and
4.Is it much better than Canon 50mm 1.8?
 
I have no experience w/the Summarit, but can tell you that the collapsible Summicron, though a nice lens, is not better than the 50/1.8 Canon. Why not get the Canon 50/1.4 for the P & gain an extra stop?

go for the Canon 50/1.4 or the 50/1.5 CV Nokton.
the Nok is a very good lens that also harmonizes well with the P.
 
You are right, it is a subjective issue. The Canon 50/1.4 is thought of though as better than the first version Summilux, which was an improvement of the Summarit. It is faster (ish) has better coatings and is very sharp wide open. Remember, we are comparing it to the Summarit and first version (collapsible) Summicron. Yes, both the Summarit and Summicron have their own character, but I think the Canon 50/1.4 can stand up to comparsons to modern fast lenses, something these two Leica's can't do.

I wonder if this gentleman's work would have been better with a Canon 50/1.4 😉 Probably not, he seems to prefer the subjective look of the collapsible summicron ...

I'm sure Canon would have jumped at the chance to send him a free 50/1.4 if he had asked for one. Indeed, Canon would have paid for him to sport its lens. I guess HCB didn't ask for one, did he?
 
HCB is also supposed to have used Zeiss, Angenieux, Cooke, FSU, and Canon/Serenar lenses also.
he probably got fantastic results any of these lens makes.
 
Hey, I'm asking for a nice fast/collapsible lens for my cameras... I don't see any big names jumping in to send me a free lens!! 😀

my point precisely ... "better" is in the eye of the photographer, and that is entirely subjective, and largely dependent on the effect he/she is going for ...

sometimes it is sharpness, other times it is signature ... depends on the photographer
 
The answers on the subjectivity of the choice are to the point. Another choice not mentioned is the Canon/Serenar 1.5, which is a bit harder to find. That has a very different character than the 1.4. I also like it for it's rendering of people and ordinary streetscapes. You also don't mention the Summitar, and that's another lens I find very flattering to people. I think you may find it difficult to cover the range of possibilities with just one lens.....

The Summarit is not for everyone. Many people hate this lens and some love it for special purpose photography. The Canon 50/1.4 is well liked by many as a general purpose lens that overall is sharp and somewhat contrasty, but others may favor the more expensive "cousin"lens, the Canon 50mm/1.5. There are so many excellent 50mm lens around that it really is a matter of personal likings and availability at reasonable cost. Note that vintage lenses can differ quite a lot fromlens to lens,so if someone lovesLens X therewill be someone else swearing that his lens X is absolutely lousy. The condition of the older lenses is very important.


I liked the performance of the Nokton (for the Prominent). It is a 50mm/1.5 lens with excellent optical qualities, similar but not identical to a true Sonnar. Some people favor the new design lenses, such as CV lenses or maybe Zeiss lenses. I have taken some photos with 25 50mm lenses recently,and I have an older thread with a test for twelve 50mm lenses. Maybe the images can give you a feeling for what you could be getting with these lenses.

By the way, there are two Hex 50/2 lenses floating around for $350 I saw today. Won't fit a Canon P, but a darn nice lens.
