Canon LTM Canon LTM 35mm f2, Canon 35mm f2.8, Jupiter 12 - opinions on these lenses?

Another possibility for a different look would be an uncoated Leitz Elmar 3.5/35. They show up on eBay occasionally and are priced in the same ballpark as the other lenses mentioned. View attachment 4842807

This is one that's been on my radar for a while. I really love the uncoated lenses that I own - the Summar and the 50/1.5 Sonnar are my two most used lenses by a long way - and having an uncoated 35mm to match really appeals to me.

They seem to come up fairly rarely in the UK, though - and when they do, they tend to be in bad shape, expensive, or a combination of both.

I have:
Nikkor 35mm f2.5
Canon 35mm f2.8 Chrome
Canon 35mm f2.8 Chrome&Black
Canon 35mm f2
Canon 35mm f1.8

ALL of these lenses are very sharp in the center wide open, with well controlled flare.
NONE of these lenses are sharp at the edges wide open, but they all get much better stopped down.

The two Canon f2.8 lenses have good edges at 5.6 and great at f8.
The others are basically 1 stop better. Good at f4 and great at f5.6.
The Canon f1.8 flares a little more at f1.8 but then again it is at f1.8! I dont think it is bad at all.
The Nikkor f2.5 has just a little extra sparkle that I cannot quantify.. maybe due to better coatings?

A lot has to do with the specific condition of these lenses as they are around 70 years old. Dust, haze, fungus, scratches have a big impact on flare.

Pretty much my assessment of the Canon 35s. I have the chrome/black 2.8, the 1.8 and the 2. The 1.8 gets most use probably because it’s the most different from the Biogon ZM 35/2 . The latter gives a modern look and to my mind is the perfect 35. I would quite like a modern LTM 35 for use on my LTM bodies but I’m hesitant over the CV35/2.5 having experienced haze developing rapidly in my CV28/3.5
