Let's see your Leica M

Hi,

For my first post here (after long hours of reading), here's a picture of the Christmas present I've done to myself: a black M6 with 50 Summicron.

Droool!
I'm trying very hard not to succumb to the temptation... but yours is exactly what I wanted, a black M6 with black Leica logo (yes, I'm vain) and black Summicron 50mm/2... may I ask where did you purchase this and for how much?

Okay, now you've got me curious. Why are you asking about the Olympus Stylus Epic?

Simple, I'm an Oly nut, and to see a Oly in the company of Leicas on the way to be taken to a rainforest for shooting photos, is enough for me to be excited

I bought the M6 in a local shop. I didn't really want to buy it on the Net, 'cause I prefered to touch and test it before putting such an amount of money.

I'd have liked to do the same for the lenses, but I wasn't able to find one near me, so I found one on http://www.collectcamera.com . It's a 2002 lens, I paid 750€ for it.

The black dot seems to be a repainted red dot, sold 3€ (or something like that) by a shop in Paris. It's quite easy to remove the red one and put the black.

I was observing the exact point but I'm too chicken to stick my neck out and risk being misunderstood as a put-downer :D
Ah no, you misunderstand. I am a put-downer. :)

I would probably take it in front of a mansion, or a museum, or a beautiful overlook to the rockies, or a quaint corner of a little old-downtown... which usually takes a lot of effort. And then, I'd spend 2 hrs trying to get the lighting, dof, focus, composition, and detail ... just right.
I think just rotating the focus ring back from infinity to around 1 m would help in some cases.

So, let's keep posting pictures with some visible effort behind it... Remember I said *effort* not *beauty* because beauty is in the eye of the beholder...
Oh, and please stop asking "Hey, that's a great shot. Which camera did you use?" because the answer will usually be "Oh, a Canon 30D." or something like that.

I have a 30D. I hate it, so I only use it to take snapshots of the kids - who won't hold still for my Ms :(

None of the places I drink coffee have M3s hanging up like quarantined colt six shooters...

Me either. But in a slightly altered version of the immortal words of Matthew Mcconaughey in the movie Dazed and Confused, "would be cooler if [they] did."

Did Kinsey use a Leica? :)

Darius Kinsey is one of my photographic heros. Actually, he is a photographic god.

I don't think he used anything smaller than 6+" X 4+". I really like the look of his 20x20".

Speaking of DK, my Grandfather had his family's portrait done by him while he was in Fall City. He, my Grandpa, is also in a couple of pics on the logging trains.

Yeah, he is a fav of mine, too.

Art -- I have two DK books. Actually the first one is a combined Volume I and Volume II which I think is the one your Leica is on. I also have the volume on logging steam locomotives.

Do you, or your family, still have those Kinsey prints? That is just too cool!

Dear members of rff,

after readind the threads and surfing the galleries for some months I decided to became a registered user. I´d like to introduce myself with a picture of my Leica M2. It was build the year I was born: 1963. You see the better side of it. It must have had a very hard hit on the back but the leica customer service fixed it. It´s working very well.

Welcome waterfront.

That's a nice combo. The modern chrome 50 'cron looks good on the 40+ year old M2.
It will be nice to see some of your photos.

Thank you, Ron!

I assume it will take some time to show you some of my photos. I have to get a scanner first. I am still at the beginning of going digital and still not sure if a flatbed-scanner will be good enough. Maybe I just have to try ...

Welcome to the forum, Thomas!

That's definitely a nice kit you have there!
