I've put photos showing the total stripdown of an R-D1 on my website: be afraid ... be very afraid!

www.richcutler.co.uk/r-d1/r-d1_18a.htm

The camera is Jonas Yip's, and the shutter failed. Steve's Camera Service Center (www.stevecamera.com) in the USA repaired it, and it's now in perfect working order.

I'm impressed: many camera technicians would be daunted by the plethora of electronic components and circuitry, but not Steve's Camera.

Many thanks to Jonas for permission to use the photos, and Steve's Camera for taking them.

That is scary, Rich, especially the RF assembly dangling on the end of that ribbon cable. I adjusted the vertical alignment on my M2 the other day and that's as far as I'm ever going in the world of camera repairs.

I'm pretty sure Steve took apart a lot more than he needed to to get to the part that needed fixing. But in the end that good for all of us, knowing there's at least one person get in there....

Of course, I hope I don't have to visit him with the R-D1 again anytime soon....

Rich,

Thanks for sharing.

The luck I have had with digital cameras (PHDs) has made me very concerned about jumping into digital RF, even though I want to very baddly. I am not sure how well Epson will stand behind her, but do not want to plunk down the $$$$$ for the M8.

Thanks again, it's a great look into the inner workings.

awesome!! I just hope they thought to disable the shutter dial lock button while putting it back together ;)
