The bad news is that I can no longer afford to get a Leica. The good news is it's because not only are Adam and I planning to finally get a place together, we just found out that I'm pregnant. Talk about lots of news in a short amount of time. I'll be buying an FSU rangefinder instead, plus a couple lenses for my Nikon FE, since that won't cost near the amount the Leica would.

One thing though: morning sickness, even the little bit that I have, sucks. 😀

My boyfriend and I are thinking more along the lines of a combination study/darkroom, with half the room going to computers and the other half going to a darkroom. Not wet, though. Plumbing it would cost too much at this point...I'm just going to get me a couple large water containers.

i figure as long as im making pictures of my baby it doesnt matter what camera i have as long as they are recorded to film...


and a side note the morning sickness does suck seeing my wife go through that made me feel bad for her knowing i couldn't do anything, but it will pass just stay strong.

I have a feeling it won't be too long until we find a place...thanks to rumors of the Electrolux plant sending a line down to Mexico we've seen plenty of houses for sale with no buyers. In fact, there's one right next to this house that we're going to look at.

Xtol developer is full of healthful Vitamin C, but I suppose you're right...

Don't forget that you don't have to do the whole thing in a dark room. I've gotten along very nicely for years with the enlarger and a vertical slot processor in a small utility room with no running water. The processor has four slots, which I have set up for developer, stop, fix and a water rinse to get the loose fixer off. Once the prints have come out of the rinse, I can hold them over a tray and carry them out to the print washer, which is set up in the kitchen and sits on the counter between sessions. (If people ask about it, tell them it's a pasta maker.) The washer is the only part of the cycle that really needs running water, and it doesn't need to be in the dark.

I don't even worry too much about ventilation in the enlarger room, because except when I've actually got paper out, I can leave the door open with a fan blowing in. This is fine because the operations that actually consume the most time in a printing session -- selecting a negative, cleaning it, loading it into the negative carrier, positioning the carrier in the enlarger, setting the enlarger height, cropping, and focusing -- all can be done with no problems under subdued normal light. It's not necessary to close the door until everything is set, and then it only needs to stay closed until the fixing time is about half over. Darkrooms don't need to be dark all the time!

There are times that children can make photography a rewarding experience, but there are times, too, that it can be frustrating. But, film or digital doesn't matter, IMHO.

8 months from now, you will be preoccupied on what name to give your child, but please don't name him or her, Leica. 😉
