CV 25mm f4 Snapshot-Skopar ???

I've found a shop with this lens at a cheap price.

Since Im searching for a decent ( again, doesnt have to be stellar, since I dont take pictures wide that often ) wide angle lens and this one seems to fit the bill...

The F4 doesnt bother me, I have F2 lens and soon, I hope, will start upgrading them for 1.4 , so the F4 really doesnt bothers me.

How is this lens performance ? Mushy ? Good ? Wide open performance ?

If someone that owned / owns / tested it could shed some light, would be lovely :)

Or about the Skopar 21mm F4 as well... saw one at a good price as well :)

I have the Skopar 25 and recently enlarged a negative (400asa) exposed at 1/25sec wide open at f4 to an 11x14 print. This lens is a very good performer IMO. I have no need for better.
 
I agree with Frank; this lens is excellent. You just need to be careful when taking photos without a rangefinder coupling.

Rangefinder coupling ? Its a screwmount lens and it needs an adaptor to connect to a M7 is that it ? Sorry for the ignorance :)
 
I've owned the CV 25/4 for about a year and I've found it to give great results at all apertures; with only f/4 being a bit on the soft side. Not RF coupled but I've grown to love that feature. Due to the click-stopped focus points it's a fast and fun lens to use. Excels at travel-type shooting and city/landscapes.

I've got the non-BL finder but I think it's very well done nonetheless. An excellent lens; highly recommended. Get it while you can as I believe it has been discontinued.
 
This is a screw mount lens that requires an M mount adaptor to fit M Leicas, but this lens is not RF coupled, you must scale focus this lens. You cannot use the camera viewfinder's RF patch.

cbass is correct that the lens has been discontinued. If you found one at a decent price it is worth picking up. It's a very small lens, but does a great job. You have to watch horizons and such, but it's worth the experience!

You are correct that the lens would need an adapter to connect to a M7. But as Frank noted above, scale focusing is necessary for this lens since it's not rangefinder coupled. While it may seem strange at first, scale focusing becomes really easy fairly quickly. You just have to estimate the distance between you and the subject and go from there. The depth-of-field will likely take care of any bad estimates. After a while you'll get good at judging distances!

Have fun with this lens if you decide to go for it!
 
I was thinking about this lens but passed on it due to not RF coupled. If you shoot a foreground object close to you and leave the rest OOF and you can't get it. Plus you always have to shoot at small apertures to help cover you focus mistakes. I like to shoot wide open - always do with my Leicas.
 
I have this lens and find it easy to use, with the click stops there is really no guess work, mounted it makes for a small kit, perfect for travel..pick up this lens if you can you won't regret it..
 
You won't regret getting this lens..(CV25). I have one too.. It is Sharp, it is fast to use too. This lens invites Zone focusing. Pick F/11 and the 3m Click, and 4' to INF is in focus. Great steet lens or landscape lens.

It's a fun little lens that I have really grown to love for street and candid-type stuff. The DOF is deep enough so that you really don't have to sweat being completely accurate with your focusing. The external VF is bright as heck and just really fun to use. I chose this over the 21/4 after some serious thinking, and don't regret it at all. It's a useful little sucker.

There ought to be a 21mm and 25mm coming out in M-mount later this year. No idea if the latter is going to rangefinder-coupled though.
 
It's my first rf lens and one of the lenses I'd never get rid off. It's cheap yet extremely good. Great value for money. And fun to use. :)

The new 25mm (if and when it arrives) should be RF coupled. The original one was designed for the Bessa L and therefore didn't need to be coupled. Its the same story for 15mm lens.

The 25mm lens is very good. The lack of RF coupling is not a problem especially with the click stop focussing. DOF even at f4 is enough to correct any errors in estimated distances. Its a sharper lens than the 21mm, although the 21mm is RF coupled.

It is worth investing in the LH1 lens hood for the 25mm or 21mm lens. In addition to reducing the chance of any flare, the rectangular hood is just visible in the bottom of the viewfinder. This helps as a reference to keep the camera (and horizon) level.

Awww...but I just got my 21 in an LTM :p

Actually, I was told by a local distributer that chances are there will be NO 25 coming out later this year. It's just an assumption as the R4 will have 25mm framelines.

I got a 21/4 early last year and I love it - it's very sharp and contrasty (it's even better than my Olympus Zuiko 21/3.5 if that's of any use).

But if you're looking for a cheap new 25/4, Stephen at CameraQuest has them for only $245 in silver. (I just ordered one - I really need something between the 21 and my 35, and the £/$ exchange rate right now made it irresistible :D )
