Bisbee sounds like a great idea. I can't say I'll be able to make it, but I might.
Let's plan on it.

Volunteer opportunity
Volunteer opportunity
I get the email newsletter from the Arizona Highway Photo Workshops and in today's email I saw this announcement that I'd like share in case folks are interested in volunteering (and getting a free pass to the workshops at the same time):
"VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Those of you who've been on our workshops know that we're a volunteer organization. Our volunteers help with everything from envelope stuffing to serving on our Board of Directors. Besides the opportunity to assist with workshop planning, volunteers accompany the workshops into the field to make sure logistics are handled. As a trip's escort, they make sure bills get paid, that people get to the bus on time, that equipment is set up, and all the little things that make a trip run smoothly. In exchange, their attendance on the workshop is paid for, and they get unparalleled access to the photographers and intense learning that are possible on our workshops. IF YOU LIVE IN ARIZONA and are interested in becoming one of our volunteers, please call us at 602-712-2004 or toll-free 1-888-790-7042 to request a volunteer application. A background check and interview may be conducted before hiring."

That sounds great! Some of their workshops look very attractive to me. Unfortunately, time is as much a limiting factor for me as money.

I'm going to suggest that the Bisbee members decide on a date that they both can attend and then propose that as a group date. It would be a shame to have an event in Bisbee and not get all 2 members that live there to attend.
Let's propose the date as soon as possible. Since this will be an out of town trip for most of us, the more lead time we have, the better.

I am a Tucson resident and after not coming to the rangefinder forum for some time I came and saw this thread. I wonder if those of us in the southern part of the state should start our own group?
Of course the Phoenix folks are welcome to come to our town for the camera show and the street fair. But we should have a get together of our own.
Of course, there isn't much between Bisbee and Tucson but maybe we could alternate.

There's no formal organization here Chad. You should feel free to try to get as many people together from anywhere and everywhere you can.
I think it will be rare that people from the SE part of the state can make it to Phoenix and the other way 'round as well.
If you do it in the Desert SW thread, we can all keep tabs and maybe attend out of area get togethers when we can.
My wife often bugs me to get us out of town....

First New M6 Shots
First New M6 Shots
I finally got time to post my first M6 shots taken at this years Barrett-Jackson on my web page. If your a automobile enthsuiast, or just like street photgraphy please check it out. (I'm not trying to change the subject at hand, I'll get back on track in another post)
After using an M4 for years and years here's my impression of the M6.
1.) It's probably more accurate at exposures than the way I've been doing it with the M4 and its attached meter.
2.) It's not as good at street photography as the M4. Street photography means getting in with people, and making them comfortable with you and your camera.
It's far less obtrusive and quicker to take a reading from the waist, and as the camera is raised check that wonderful analog dial and make changes as the camera comes to the eye. Having to peep into the M6 with no idea as to what speed or apperature has already been set interupts conversation and puts the subject off.
3.) The red ball that say's Leica really is an ice breaker, I landed quites a number of self introductions with that. With the M4 it was at best, 'boy that sure looks like an old camera!'
4.) The M6 is smaller than the metered M4. Smaller is always better.
5.) As far as shutter noise, they're the same, but I like the M4 viewfinder better with its tad less clutter.

Why can't you keep the look at the shutter speed and f stop off the top of the camera and lens as you bring the camera to your eye then make quick adjustments when the camera is to your eye.
I am always adjusting my camera as I walk from the sunny side of the street; for 400 speed film 1/500th f11 to the shady side 1/500th f5.6 so you shouldn't have to do too much adjusting.

Sure, I bracket exposure and compensate with the on board computer old school style, but the way you suggest means dropping the camera to adjust again, an uneccessary second correction. The advantage in the old M4 is is to sneak in the exposure during conversation, a step important to the photographer but may put off the subject.
The perfect M6 would have LEDs on the camera's top that would remain lit for 4 seconds or so as well as those seen through the view finder. The M5 looks better every day, doesn't it?

I know of two cameras with LEDs on the top plate: Yashica Electro 35 GSN and the Voigtlander Bessa L.

I've been there, looks like kitty litter to me. Show some photos, other than golf courses, fancy hotels, malls, or buildings that look like Ramada Inns. I know Grand Canyon is there, but overrated. I haven't been in the hills possibly you can find something interesting that isn't surrounded by tee shirt shops.

I take it you won't be making the trip out to join us on a get together? Just as well, I'm certain you would never find anything of interest here.

Not to start a flame war, but I'm glad you don't like AZ the last thing we need here is more Californians.

Not true! We've absorbed many thousands of refugees from California over the years. People motivated to better their lives are always welcome.

I don't know, house prices were pretty cheap here in Tucson before all the Angelistas moved in and raised all the costs.

That's ok. I'm going to sell one of them my house for 3 times what I paid for it.

I agree with you about Danville. Most of California is kitty litter lite.

Kartchner Caverns State Park
Kartchner Caverns State Park
May I suggest a shoot at Kartchner Caverns if the Tucson area is the goal?
I live in Phoenix, and whether the town looks like California or not I would go for something a little more like Benson.
Bisbee is a little too much of walking on the wild side for me. Phoenix already has plenty of gay bars and galleries to visit.
I'm told there is no photography in the caverns, but does anyone from the Tucson area know if the the park itself would make a good shoot?
