I just ordered from Don at DAG the 4 M3 style levers to mod my M4:
-film advance lever
-rewind lever
-self timef lever
-preview lever.
I wanted originally to make a "panda" M4 with all black shoe, levers and speed and rewind knob, but the price was the same than buying a nice lens. So I will first try to see if this outfit suits my fashion sense otherwise I may just paint those parts in black as I can have muriatic acid very easyly

Is it hard to put on the adv lever does anyone know? I'd like to change my M6 to have the black MP/M3 style adv lever but if I can just order a part and do it myself rather than send the camera in that would be ideal!

The actual work is easy. But you will need to make a ring wrench to avoid marking and/or damaging the retaining ring. Pliers wrapped in tape will work but will damage the ring. If you're unlikely to do similar work in the future or are all thumbs, take the camera to a tech. Any experienced tech can replace the wind lever in mere minutes. Google M2 Repair Manual for pictures of the parts.

A basic guide is available from my website which runs to 766Kb.

One of these days I will get time to condense the full manual down to a couple of Meg by using postscript in the same way I did the screwmount guides.

Cool thanks for all the info. I am going to check our tools at work tomorrow and I might just order the part. I'll take a closer look at the M3 tomorrow just to see that I like the feel of that type of lever. I love the look but functionality is more important. Blasphemy I know!

The "panda" M4 is kind of a fantasy of mine, I will just stick with the all metal M3 style lever for some time, but as I urge to paint my M4 black, I may just try to paint the panda parts first. Then if its nice, I'll stick with this otherwise I'll paint the entire body black. I never saw a panda M4 on the net before, I want to be the first hehe...
If I had 200 euros to buy that fantasy of mine I would have (because it is the price if I want to buy each pieces separately in black, those parts are scarce)
In fact I am pondering between an anthracite body and silver levers and a panda M4... Very hard to choose from!

I saw numerous of 'a la carte' leicas with a black body and silver levers and knobs, I just thought it would look so cool!
