AFAIK, it's Carl Zeiss themselves. Rich Schleuning in New Jersey is already their camera representative, which I believe is a new position, something they didn't have before. He can be reached by e-mail at:

RSchleuning@zeiss.com.

I've found him to be very responsive.

I think that the only thing they're waiting for - although I may be wrong about this - is to designate someone as a Service Center for repairs, warranty service, etc. This is something which they expect to do within the next few months. Rich can verify or correct any of this.

Dear Grober,

Carl Zeiss established a Photo Division to support the Zeiss Ikon rangefinder and ZF f-mount lenses last May. This division is being 'hosted' by the Zeiss MicroImaging group, based in Thornwood, NY. They handle all of the 'back-room' logistics including order processing and shipping.

As of January 2006, we have 25 authorized dealers in the U.S. and will soon add 2 more in Canada. We have been adding 1-2 dealers per month and expect this to continue through 2007. Our goal is to have an authorized dealer in most major and secondary markets, who are committed to professional photography and will support the product line with a trained sales staff and a representative assortment of Zeiss Ikon samples.

As Huck Finn mentions earlier, we are actively seeking an authorized service center and have had discussions with several interested parties who are experienced in the repair of rangefinder cameras and lenses. I hope to have this resolved shortly. In the meantime, if the need for a repair arises, we are shipping products to the Cosina factory via the Service Department at Hasselblad USA. This system has been in place since last May and while not as convenient as a U.S. based service center, has been working satisfactorily.

If you need any additional information about the distribution of Zeiss Ikon in the U.S. or Canada, please don't hesitate to contact me.

I agree with Joe ... there should be one service facility in Canada. Dealing with the Canadian Customs and Revenue Agency with export/import claims is more than a PITA!

Richard:

Here's what I'd need: have Zeiss professionally change the original lensmount on my ZM 25mm lens into a ZM35 lens mount. Zeiss in Germany e-mailed me that they'd perform this service for 40 Euros + shipping. (I need this mount change so this wonderful lens keys the more useful 24mm frame on my Leica M8.)

A reasonable price until I figured out all the costs including U. S. Customs charges.

Are you suggesting that it we pay for shipping to Hassy USA (New Jersey?) Zeiss bear the costs from there?

Please advise.

I have to wonder how all of this will affect merchants like Tony Rose at Popflash. Is he an authorized reseller? Will prices change (i.e. go up before I've squirrled away enough for that 28mm Biogon I've been eyeing)?

Hey, Tony, If you're "listening" what do you think of all this?
