Hello All,
I'm new to the forum and new to Voigtlander rangefinders, but I've just picked up a R2A to replace my M6 and 50mm Summicron. I'm now looking for some suggestions on super sharp Voigtlander lenses? Thanks, I look forward to your thoughts.
Sincerely,
Joseph

the 50 nokton 1.5 is quite sharp, but not my fav lens when it comes to image signature, in my opinion you should have kept your summicron!

The 35mm 2.5 is pretty damn sharp and constrasty when stopped down. At f/16 with high contrast film it looks over-contrasty though.

Not that I want to discredit the Voigtlander, but what had happened to your Leica gear to replace it...?Empire said:Hello All,

I can give the Ultron 28mm F/1.9 a very strong recommendation - super sharp. Only disadvantage with the R2A is you'll need to use an external finder.

The best replacement for a 50mm Summicron is another 50mm Summicron. You'd be far from the first person to buy another.

Joseph, in which focal length(s) are you interested?
If 50mm, I'd concur with Avotius about the 50/1.5 Nokton. If 35mm, I'd recommend the 2.5 Pancake II. I've had both and they're capable of providing very fine images.
hth and enjoy the hunt!/ScottGee1

Hello again,
Thanks for your thoughts on lenses. My Leica stuff went to fund my large format addiction. So, I'm useing the voigtlander to fill the void. Do any of the Voigtlander lenses come close to the Leitz lenses? How about the Asph lenses?
Thanks again,
Joseph

The Ultron 35 1.7 Aspherical is sharp, fast, not verly contrasty and draws nice images - to my eyes.

At the risk of incurring the wrath of the Puts haters, I'll post this link:

Keep in mind that Erwin has some kind of direct relationship with Leitz so his POV may be affected by that.
Different people have different eyes and criteria. In summary, the CV gear is well made, certainly good and probably excellent value for money. It has a tendency to brass easily and is not a mechanically strong as the Leitz equipment. If I were going into a war zone, I know which I'd take with me. For day to day use, CV is fine for most people.
That said, a lot of us at RFF like the Voigtländer lenses a lot. You can find some threads here in which members have posted comparison tests that may help you. I'm not a fan of on-screen 'tests' as my ultimate goal is a fine print. Also, I've had issues with the methodologies used for most of the tests. But that's me and I usually just keep quiet and move on. And it's important to keep in mind that a difference doesn't automatically make one product superior to the other. Different strokes and all that.
Have fun!/ScottGee1

I'm not a chart and graph type of guy, so to me every CV lens I have is really very very good (and I have a bunch of CV lenses). HOWEVER, I've found that the 35/2.5, the 90/3.5, and the 50/1.5 have all at one time or another made me look and say "wow, that's sharp!" Especially so with the 90, which I've used far less than the other two. You may want to peruse the Voigtlander groups on Flickr, and the M-Mount group (put up by RFFers).

I had to get rid of mine. Too sharp for my liking.
