We tried last year to get a Chicago group together, but it fizzled.

I'm thinking a monthly coffee get-together on a Saturday or Sunday morning. If we hold it at a Borders or Barnes and Noble that has a decent photo book section and cafe, that would be ideal. If we do it around 10AM, it would allow time for first light shooting and after meeting safaris for those that are able - others may only have time for the socializing.

Comments?

Yes, rogue & I will be there. We have to be sure to have a rangefinders of some sort visible. I'll probaly have my XA out on the table, (if a table is available) plus I look just like my avatar. I'm 5'8", if that helps at all.

I'll be there with my wife, though she may be off reading somewhere else.

BTW rogue, are you going to mark the Canonet sold and take it out of your siggy?

Not until I have your cash in my hot little hands. ;)

Just kidding. I'll edit the add shortly.

I too look just like my avatar. Minus horns, Plus scruff. I'll be wandering around with a Canon P around my neck for further ID.

This coming Saturday? Let me check. It seems we have an engagement (and I don't live that close to the city), but if it's possible, I'll show up sporting an M6TTL.

Is this the Borders next to the Gene Siskel Film Center? I believe that's it, right?

I would love to attend, but I am in the burbs (Northbrook). Keep me in the loop though. Perhaps some time I can get away for a bit. With two kids and a wife, free time is, well sparce.

Chicago Force's Errant Venture Star Wars book club discusses Allegiance by Timothy Zahn.

This could produce
(a) a lot of annoyance
(b) tons of photo ops of very strange... well, you know
(c) normal day (hey, it's Chicago ;) )

This should be an awesome thing to photograph. We won't be the only dorks there, hehehe.

Northbrook? That's relatively close, about 30 miles. No excuse. Weekend Metra passes are $5 ea for you and the wife; kids ride free.

Bring them, it will be a big adventure! (depending on how hold they will be)

SolaresLarrave: I'm not sure what the theatre is called, but it is playing 'Wicked', you can't miss it. Look for the big green signs.

For you outlying guys, this might be a good chance to duck in a real camera shop. (Central Camera Co.) It's about a 5 or 6 block walk from the Borders. Compared to Wolf, etc., it will blow your mind.

There is also Helix & Calumet, though I've never been to Calumet. Helix is huge, much bigger than Central, but without the character that comes with being a 100+ year-old family-owned company.

Oddly enough I had to photograph that same group once for an article, small friendly group, wouldn't be a problem. I am interested in a meet up as well, possibly count me in.

Heard the Saturday forecast this morning

Heard the Saturday forecast this morning

Snow in the morning, some sort of rain/snow mixture in the afternoon. Not ideal.

http://www.crh.noaa.gov/forecast/MapClick.php?CityName=Chicago&state=IL&site=LOT

The forecast more than 2 days out can be totally ignored, but by today, I'm starting to have a little more faith.

For those of you who are thinking of coming, consider coming just for the comaraderie instead of for any great photo ops. ;) Snow isn't too bad to shoot in, it's just hard to keep the lens clean. Rain is where I bow out, unless there is something fantastic going on.

Yes, it is between to the Gene Siskel movie theater and the Cadalic Palace Theater where Wicked! is playing.

I may go to this meet. Heck, there's a lot of us, no reason why we should let it die.

Now... it all still depends on how my wife feels (healthwise) on Saturday. But she's willing to spend time in the Art Institute while I chat with youse guys! :) We have an engagement later somewhere up in the North area, so it seems it's all fine.
