just noticed a new twist on ebay.

"To keep the eBay community safe and to protect our members from fraudulent emails, such as fake second chance offers, eBay has changed how bid history information is displayed. If you place a bid on a higher-priced item, only you and the seller of the item can view your User ID in the bid history. Other members can no longer view User IDs and will see anonymous names, such as Bidder 1."

Now you don't know who you are bidding against. I always looked at the feedback of other bidders and the items the have been bidding on. Gives you an idea of the person your up against. Now it's just bidder 1 and bidder 2 and so on. Just anonther pile of BS from the bay.

I agree, this new system stinks. I thnk that it makes it even easier to post a bunch of shill bids. I also usually check out the ratings and interests of other bidders. Also, it is helpful to know if you are biddng against collectors or dealers.

I like to know who the bidders are so I avoid bidding against rff members.
Now I just use popflash instead of ebay.

It all started a couple weeks ago. I've found it VERY annoying.

I found it useful to know who I was bidding against. That way I could check who they were, if they were going to bid high (like a collector or a dealer). This sucks!

You can still get an overview of each bidder's past activites. You just don't know their identity. This was done to help eliminate fraudulent second chance offers, which were becoming legion. I for one was ready to stop using eBay because of the fraudulent second chance offers, and many have been taken in by them.

I bet the differ. anonymous bidding has been an established process for almost all auctions. The cool of auctions is that you must be able to walk away from it, deal or no deal. set your max bid.

Unless you know how to price these better than other person, in which case, other person may go crazy anyway. If you really realy want it, you will pay more.

Someone has to make a living- Usually the seller. If everyone got a bargain on his/her beloved gear, why wound I want to sell?

the point I am getting at is you can no longer see past activity or the bidders location and that can make a diff. Now it's easy to hide the fact that the bidder won several auctions from the seller in the last month or so. Get the idea. As to people who get taken in by scams well what can I say.

There is no need to know your fellow bidder's name, just as long as you know their bidding history..

I really don't care what the name is. Just the past history. Just seams like more info withheld from the bidders and to me it seams like it would make shady bidding practices easier to conceal.
