Well it's been a long time since I've taken everyone here's great advice on adquiring a bessa r and a J8. I really love the set and finally can get some pictures up to show you all. As a replacement to my leica (stolen) there's really something quite liberating about this set up. Thanks for the great advice!

Some good shots here. I love the color as well. Seems like a good set up.

About half are very good. The others are so-so and I'd have chalked up to "learning to use the new camera."

Especially like the girls in doorway and proud taxi cab owner photos. Interesting combination of vibrant colors and others that appear soft and muted, almost pastel. Guess an overcast day helped. Cuba looks like Puerto Rico in the 1950s.
The colors of the buildings reminded me of this shot I snapped after sunset in Rome a year ago.

The best camera is one that still works!
All shots are great ... even the slightly out of focus ones ... I particularly like the cab and driver shot. The car is awsome and his relaxed defiant stance is classic!

Hi Mexipike ... it's me again,
I hope you don't mind but I liked that cabby shot so much I decided to do a mild crop and repost it.
It's a gem ... that guy has such attitude!

Hi all... delighted to see this Thread.
Keith, HOW did you do this? It is a technical question... I like the post and
love that taxi driver & vintage Pontiac shot. Send me a PM...
Re: Bessa R+J8... I'm a very new Bessa R user, and I'm waiting for a 'Sweeneyfied' J8.
Do TEST your J8 at wide apertures. Some of them backfocus
on a Bessa R, and there's an adjustment that can be made to the lens, if you
are handy with tools.
Good luck with your new kit!

Thanks everyone for the nice responses, glad you like the shots. And yes they are taken in Cuba. I think the out of focus is a mixture of human error and lens error. My J8 doesn't seem to lock into focus in the viewfinder at infinity and seems to be on and off wide open close up. Although in some of them I like the out of focus look it would be nice to have a controlable out of focus. Mike Goldberg, how do adjust the lens for backfocusing like you mentioned?

one quick question, I compressed these pictures from really huge scans, in most of them I used the method outlined in the sticky on the film section. However some of them I had to compress even more on JPEG low to get to be less then 300kb, and some of them in particular the one with the guy leaning on the brightly painted wall, lost a lot of brightness in their color. how can I avoid this?
