As I understand it, a 21 is a 28 equivalent, but the M8 does not have 21 framelines (which would be 28 equivalnet). My M7 has 28 framelines. I assume that if I use a 21 on an M8 (on order from B&H), I will need a 28 auxillary finder.

Is this the case?

Yes, you will need the 28mm auxillary finder. The widest lens you can use on the M8 is a 24, which will bring up the proper framelines.

Yup. My choice for 21mm is the non-Asph Elmarit which I had coded by Leica in New Jersey. (Process took four weeks @ $125.00 plus one-way shipping cost.)

I'm still waiting for the 60mm IR-cut filter promised by Leica. Once received, it will permanently reside on my 21mm. When Leica releases firmware 1.10, I should be good to go. (Always an optimist here!)

I use the Zeiss 25/28 auxiliary finder. I'm told the CV metal 28/38 finder is good too but I've never actually used one. The CV choice also has two advantages over the Zeiss: smaller size and lower cost. However, once you put the Zeiss viewfinder to your eye, there's no turning back despite it lofty price.

I can sell you my Leica universal finder

I can sell you my Leica universal finder

I have a new in box 21/24/28 Leica finder for sale. Cost $399 new at BH, sell it for $275. Just posted it at photo.net.

Thanks for the info. I have the 21 3.4 angulon (which will not meter). Since I have an m3 (alongside the m7) and use 28 and 35, I will get the voigtlander 28/35 finder, I guess. My m8 came today, so I will look forward to trying it all.

I have 2 RF coupled CV lenses the 28 Ultron and the 40 Nokton.

The Ultron has an adapter (as it is a screw mount lens) and the 40 is natively a bayonet mount.

On the M8 the 28 brings up what seems to be an appropriate frame line while the 40 doesn't. What am I missing here? Thx.

The 21 3.4 angulon worked with the M8 (not the meter, though), but I had it set on JPEG only (still learning!), so images were compressed. I will try again with dng and try to post. I did not see vignetting on the 21, but edges seemed to have a bit of a color fringe. I will try some more and report back.

There is some vignetting, but it is relatively mild I guess since one is using less of the edges of the lens. It sems "wider" than a 28, maybe becuase of the "drawing" aspect because the edges of the frame are further from the lense vs. a 28 (like using too much rise on a view camera)? Looks fairly sharp overall.

Using the histogram is fine for setting exposure
