Unbelievable .
My Fed 2b ...(from Fedka) ...don't know if it's been cla'd, silenced, or neutered -but it's as quiet as Leica 111f's I have owned, - and that's good enough for any application I'll put it to !! .....wonder how much he'd charge to silence my mother-in-law??![]()
Cheers Dave![]()

Where is the solution.....Brian, put all but one in a stout box, and send to an address in darkest Yorkshire, to be advised-by me!!Regards, Dave.

Hi Dave,
I couldn't think of a better home than Yorkshire, unless it was darkest Lancashire where I first saw the light of day![]()
I'm not complaining by the way, just that I expected that when I reached my age,I would be more capable of making my mind up.As Rob suggests ,wallowing in this embarrassment of riches is the answer.![]()
Coming back to one of the earlier points though,I have a serviced Zorki 1,which I bought from Oleg a few months ago, which is just as quiet as my 111c,although as far as I know the latter has not been CLA'd in recent times.
Cheers,
Brian.

ruben, could you make a comparison of the viewfinders of the two? which one (fed 2 or kiev 4) would you prefer with wide open jupiter 9 at low light?
(as you can see i have the same problems...)

a) IN CASE YOU WEAR GLASSES, NO DOUBT THE FED WINS HANDS DOWN, as you will use it without glasses interfering.
b) Looking thrugh both cameras viewfinders with my glasses, I got the impression the Kiev viewfinder optics are a bit better quality.
c) Yesterday I took Oleg's (cleaned) Fed by night and I was able to focus on not near things, that my Sekonic L308 set at 3200 ASA and 1 second was not able to meter, giving me "EU" (exposure under). Meaning whatever film is able to catch handheld, Oleg's Fed will let you to focus.
d) But I didn't the same with the Kiev, so I don't know.
All in all, if you isolate the issue of the diopter adjustment, you will feel going back to those golden years in which you didn't need glasses.
BUT, there are a lot of other issues besides. Among them the most outstanding for the negative is that lens thread/sensor/screwmount, that for a Kiev born bayonetist looks like a dangerous jungle or/and a cardboard arrangement.
On the positive side, changing speeds and advancing film with a Fed, is a civilized experience, making you forget the two centuries ago times of the industrial revolution, that the Kiev winding knob reminds .
For the Kiev user, I think, it will not harm to have a pair of Oleg's Feds besides him, if price is not an obstacle (Soviet screw mount lens are more expensive than those for Kiev). But all in all, a Contax is a Contax. And a son of a Contax is a son of a Contax.
Cheers,
Ruben

Thanx, Ruben. Somehow I was hoping you won't make my decision easier
... I have a mint 1977 Kiev 4 with working meter, good shutter speeds and exact focusing J-9. I just hope it is not too arrogant too ask for a FED2 combination that is as good. I thought my next camera would be a Leica M3 but than again, Olegs FED2 i can afford much sooner. My only problem is that I will have to sold my Kiev because my wife will be asking for divorce again...
