image preview concerns

My first M8 had some electrical issues and leica has replaced it with a new camera. i have been taking lots of pictures with the new camera just to make sure that it is working without any problems. I have noticed a few times that the preview of the image I just shot isn't the last image ,but the one second to the last or several frames before. I am wondering if anyone has noticed this. The camera does have the most recent firmware installed.

This happens to me as well and what I've determined that's happening is that the camera is still writing the image to the card. It only seems to happen when I've just taken a number of pictures quickly. I'm using a 150x SD card by the way and it still happens.

I believe this is a well-known (i.e. has been reported to Leica) error.

I don't know that being slow counts as an "error". But yes, if the most recent shot is still being processed, what will show up on the screen is the most recent fully-processed image. The tip-off is in the numbering in the bar at the top of the LCD: if the camera says you are seeing, say, image 128/130, that means images 129 and 130 will be available soon - just hit the right arrow key to get to them.

And, yes, image processing seems to have slowed a bit with firmware 1.092 - write times and reviews seem to take just a bit longer than with 1.06.

Right! It's an aggravation to have to wait until written to the card BEFORE you can pull up the review! A work around is to set for immediate playback a thumbnail for x number of seconds in the menu. This gets you an immediate look at the shot you just took. You have to tap the shutter button to get it to go away but it certainly works for me. Otherwise i spend 6-8 seconds waiting to see what I just shot.

The preview issue -and the scrolling issue - is a known side product of firmware 1.092. Although it is just a minor glitch, it will be corrected in 1.10. If somebody is really bothered by it, one can revert to 1.09, which does not exhibit this phenomen.

I'm glad to hear that it is a firmware issue. I've shot over 100 exposures since I first posted about this issue. I haven't noticed the problem when I do make sure the file has been written to the card. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this body will become a keeper and be with me for years to come. Thanks to everyone who responded to the post!

A matter of taste. I find it unpleasant to have a light flashing into my eye whenever I have taken a picture, but as somebody who has used film for decades, I don't set much store by chimping anyway. It will be different for others.

I have noticed that the last image that is shown is not the "last image", even when it has been written to the card and I am not shooting fast. In the last sixty exposures this has happened a couple of times, but everything else seems to be working fine with the camera.
Has anyone noticed this happening with their camera?
