By pure chance I stumbled upon two cosmetically and functionally very nice 35mm lenses in the past two months. One is the fabled 8-element summicron, the other a summaron, both from 1966. I'll be shooting both for a while, but in the end I'll probably decide that two is one too many.

What would you do? Go for the biggest profit, sell the cron and keep a 35mm that is definitely no slough, or keep in style and sell the summaron?
 
After you have used both for a while, you will likely prefer one over the other, so I'd suggest keeping the one you like better and selling the other. Unless you need the cash, in which case, the decision becomes simpler(though more painful, perhaps.).
The summaron is M-mount, not LTM?(cause, I'd have a different suggestion other wise. :D)

I would be interested in how Magus and other forum members would compare the visual qualities of the images produced with the 8-element Summicron and the Summaron, respectively.
 
Rob, simply try both and keep your fav. Ergonomics may play a role as well. Once you have both lenses, eventually you will come to like one more than the other.

Haven't seen any images from the summaron yet, but according to many, both lenses are of equal optical quality, that is very nice for >40 year old designs. Of course the cron has one stop extra (although the summaron has one more at the other end of the diapragm scale :) ). As for size, build and ergonomics, both lenses are similarly superb! I haven't seen newer lenses with better build!
 
Between the two choices, I think I'd rather have the"extra stop" at the open end, rather than the closed-down one. How often do you close all the way down?
 
I can't advise you anything, Huub...but when you decide, pls keep in mind that I am looking for a 35mm for my M2 :D
(although the "fabled" summicron sounds like a very expensive lens for my budget)
 
I've heard nothing but good things about the Summaron; I have a Summicron (an 8 element one from 1960, as luck would have it) and I know I'll never sell it. You probably can't go wrong. So I think Rob and Frank make the best sense- shoot with them both, and see which one you prefer. If the money isn't a worry, you might keep them both- but if one gets left in the bag all the time for the other, you'll have your answer.
 
imho keep both, they will hold their value. The fast 35 is perhaps the keeper if you really have to sell one!
 
Magus, that is a surprise response from you! I thought that you prefer the latest asph lenses?
