How about a photo thread for both vintage and new (lens on the SP 2005 reissue) W-Nikkor 3.5/1.8 lenses :)

Here's some photos taken with a new W-Nikkor 3.5/1.8.

These were taken on Velvia 100F last weekend in Kamakura, the ancient Japanese capital to the south of Tokyo. Cherry blossom time is a great time of year here, and photographers are out in force everywhere.

First we visited Myohon-ji, a less popular temple, to find only a dozen or so photographers (photo 1) doing their thing. They were mostly set up with tripods and waiting to shoot petals blown from the tree by wind gusts.

Next, we walked along the cherry blossom lined road that leads to Kamakura's most important shrine, the Hachiman-gu Shrine (photo 2). Back to tourist central.

The last stop was the garden at the entrance to the Hachiman-gu shrine. We had to pay an entry fee, but the cherry blossoms were in full bloom and there wasn't many people about, so it was well worth it.

jon, these are beautiful! I need to get my self a w-nikkor.

Thanks :)

My W-Nikkor 3.5/1.8 is well and truly my favourite lens!

Here's two more shots taken in the garden, and a 100% crop of photo 3 above (she's holding a Nikon!) and photo 4. Sharp little lens.

Looking forward to seeing some more W-Nikkor 3.5/1.8 photos!

Nice images. I use the Nikkor 2.8cm/3.5 as my general purpose wide-angle. The 35/1.8 is for low light -- but that's where I do a lot of my shooting, so it gets plenty of usage.

Here are a few 35mm F1.8 shots.....

Ummm, I forgot. Actually I have two zooms including the 18-200 VR  That Tokina fisheye zoom is a fishy barrel of fun :D I'd post some pics, but this is an RF forum ...

Another couple in color from last year...again with 35mm F1.8, these on S2.

I think 50 percent of my shots with this lens are taken at 1/8 to 1/30 of a second wide open or at f/2.

I swear the picture is not as soft as it came out here:confused:

Here is another one in San Diego:

Both shots were taken with the vintage model.

How is the light in this one? Comments please.

The light looks okay. I'm willing to bet that the scene actually looked more like this. But dusk is wonderfully forgiving light. There are many possible exposures, each with its own personality.

On the sharpness, it took me awhile to get the knack of scanning prints and negatives. Doing it correctly is fairly time consuming and requires a deft hand with UnSharpMask. To save time and hassle, I get my negs scanned onto a CD for a couple extra dollars at the same time I get the film processed. Most of the one-hour photo machines create very sharp scans, and I can live with 2MB resolution and re-scan it myself if I really want more.

Kiu, it look's like its a warm late afternoon in summer in you're photo, but with Vince's changes it looks like we've jumped straight into a cold winter day. As Vince said two different personalities!
