i assume the 40/2 rokkor brings up the 50mm framelines on the zi and that it takes the same mod (filing) to bring up the 35 framelines?

anyone know for sure?

Not after the Rollei 40 anymore?

i was hoping the rollei had a more pronounced sonnar look but i don't think it's like the 50/1.5 zm.
the rokkor is a known entity to me as i owned 2 of them many years ago. they are very good lenses and nice and small as well. i think it would be a good alternative choice for the zm 35 when i want a smaller package to shoot with.

my immediate goal is to set up the 2 kits, cv wide kit and zm kit, and then a few choice combos for comfort and quality.

i did buy a 40 rokkor today and i want to use the 35 framelines with it but before i modify it i'd like a few words from those who use this set up.

Hi Joe,

if the Rokkor that you bought brings up the ZI 50mm lines, and the 35/135 LTM/M adapter
that you bought brings up the 35mm lines, you'll be safe doing the mod.

Best,

Roland.

The 50 lines worked well for me - I never felt like I needed the 35s. It was easier for me to estimate what was just outside the 50 lines, rather than what I wouldn't get looking at the 35s. It's also easy to use the frameline selector to see where the 35s are falling, and then flip back to 50. All in all easier (for me) than making a lens adjustment.

Certainly not everyone will follow the same path, but I use 40mm lenses on bodies with 40mm frames, and 35 & 50mm lenses on cameras with viewfinders with those frames. No filing, no estimation. Works for me. :)

Joe, Just out of interest you might like to try and get yourself a Rollei XF 35, its a cheaply found fixed lens rangefinder camera. It has an actual rangefinder unlike the famous Rollei 35's and has a 40mm f2.3 Sonnar. The body quality is the pits but surprisingly the Sonnar lens does exhibit those likable qualities of the Sonnar family. I bought one for for under 20 bucks and was most surprised by the lens. Since you like tryin and buyin I thought I would offer it as a fun suggestion.

thanks earl, your support is much appreciated...:)

if i use the lens on the r4m i have the option of choosing the framelines myself, on the zi the 50 pop up so i'll use both and then decide if i want to modify it. and i have not given up hope on another cle in the future so leaving the lens as is has some attraction.
a cle with 40 and the grd would be a great combo for everyday.

Joe,
I taped the frameline preview on my M to try out the 35mm lines with a 40 Nokton. Shot with it for a couple of weeks & realized I prefered that compared to the 50mm lines. I haven't had any cut off limbs or heads/foreheads as of yet, but I tend to leave a little extra room around the image anyway.
You may want to tape up the frameline on the ZI and give it a shot...

35 framelines on the r4m
50 framelines on the zi
that's the short term plan for now.

the 40 will likely be used on the r4m for the most part. i bought the cv 35/2.5 which is a fine lens but very contrasty so the 40 will be used on sunny days and the 35 on grey days.
