Leica M6 with 7.5mm Lens

I took a roll of film about a week ago with my M6 (0.85) and a Canon FD 7.5mm circular fisheye lens. I used Canon adapter B to screwmount, and then used a regular scremount to M adapter tomount the lens on the M6. Obviously, the viewfinder of the M6 was useless for such a lens. I bought from Loewe's hardware store a solid brass large size fisheye door viewer. I held it up to my eyes when I wanted to take a photo. I was not very careful with avoiding my shade in the images, but with direct sunshine and sugar white sand, it was hopeless. Instead, I tried to crop our images out of the circular images with my shadow in each appearing.

waileong: I have both adapters for many years, so it was a no cost option to me.
I had the M6 too. The M6 is smoother to use than a T90 or F1N FD body.

😱 Heresy!!! 😛 😉 More seriously, it's really good that you posted these. I personally would rather use my T90 if I had access to that lens but the reality is you did a far better job than I ever could, so...

Raid, that looks like great fun! (I hope you didn't get sunburned. I always do.)

Did your door-viewer viewfinder let you know when the horizon was level? (You've used the non-level horizon to great effect in some of the pictures, I'm just wondering whether you could get the whole setup perfectly level if you wanted to without using a spirit level.)

Hi William,

The T90 and the F1N are among my all-time favorite cameras, but the M6 is not bad either. It makes hardly any noise, and this helps with little children photography.

Hi Michael,

With a circular image, I find all type of angles interesting. There does not need to exist a straight horizon for my taste in photos. The door-viewer was new and not attached to anything, so I just occasionally took a peek through it. It is easy to get the image level by first composing with the door viewer and then looking through the viewfinder of the camera to get a straight horizon [if this is what you want]. I may need to superglue the door-viewer to a flash attachment in order to get better use of it.

As some of the pictures show, Raid, it is possible to get the horizon to be almost straight. What is the white-ringed black spot in the second picture?

As Magus said, it must be a UFO! Joke aside, the city of Gulf Breeze, through which you have to pass to reach Pensacola Beach, has the world record for UFO sightings. Pick up any book on UFO sightings and there will be a section or mentioning of the "Gulf Breeze Sighting"!

I think it is a defect on the negative.

Thanks for posting these, Raid, also re-induces lust for a superwide in me ...

The 15 Heliar is great, but I found built quality a bit less than with the
other CV lenses. I sold it because I ended up only shooting with it,
leaving all other lenses in my bag. For educational purposes 🙂) ) I limit
myself now to 28 and up.

Interesting effects, but I would be very scarred to get pinholes in the curtain.
With this angle of view the sun is almost always in the picture, and due to the length of the lens the immage is very small >> hot.

This is a good point, and I always placed the lens cover back quickly after taking a photo. Maybe it is enough palying with the M6 and this lens. The Canon P would be equally good as a RF camera but with a metal shutter curtain. Of course, the natural way would be to use any Canon FD camera.

Magus: Thanks for your thoughts. Let me know when you get the 15mm lens. We want to see some results here. Roland's posted image is excellent in all aspects.

Hi Roland,

I know your image from an earlier RFF Critique session. It is great.
As for letting go from this lens in order to use other lenses, I faced a similar situation during my last Germany trip. I kept the CV 25mm/4 on the M6 and got lazy, so I removed and "hid" the 25/4 so that I could try out the Canon 50/1.2 for some creative shots.

The 28mm focal length is the widest focal length with which you can shoot without distortion. It is a "wide 35mm lens"in its use.
I have the Rokkor and the Canon 28mm/3.5. Both are excellent lenses.

Great to see your experiment found its way to reality. I particularly like the images taken with the camera well away from level.
After all that, would you say that you've found a combination you will use in the future, or is it just not to your liking?
