Hey folks,

After quite some hours of ebay, our local marktplaats.nl, and other websites I thought I'd ask here. I am looking for either an second hand or first hand R-D1, but somehow I can't find them in the Netherlands. It is also hard to find them in Europe, I can't find any camera shop that has this cam for sale.

So if you'd know where they sell the R-D1(s) in europe I would be really really pleased.

Thanks,

Simon

Hallo Simon, Hi Simon
Living in the Netherlands I faced the same problem and decided to buy 2nd hand from an RFF member.
I havn't heard of any local dealership, so the only choice is to travel to the UK and buy one from Robert White, or try the Internet.
I made the gamble and, without having ever seen one, I bought a R-D1s with a 50-1.5 CV Nokton from maddoc (Japan).:)
This gamble paid off. I like the gear and just missed the delivery of my 2nd lens, a cv 35-2.5 pancake II.
I think this forum is inhabited by a set of decent guy's (and some girls) who treat their stuff very well, will take care of sending and packaging and won't cheat.
My combo was well taken care of and the packaging was very good.

Be aware that you have to pay 19% VAT (BTW) plus admin cost on top of your 2nd hand price if the goods ship from outside the EU.
Furthermore, the TNT post service is lousy. My combo took 36 hrs from 1 Japanese Island to Tokyo to Amsterdam and then waited for 10 days in a warehouse before customs and the final 40 odd kilometers to my house.
Made me mad:bang:
R-D1(s) appear on a regular interval in the classifieds, just be a little patient.
If you want more info you can PM me and we can have a phone conversation or otherwise, depending your residence.

Last I heard some of those big stores in Tokyo had them new with a lens for a discount, sorry I don't know more than that.

Thanks Jim,

I'll bookmark that link.. Is Robert White the only one in Europe still selling the R-D1(s)s?

Simon.
Robert White is the only official UK importer and I think the only one actually selling them new in the UK. He is a very supportive and helpful dealer even if you buy from abroad as many on RFF will testify (I have no connection with him).

I'm not sure about Epson's status on selling else where in the rest of Europe. When Epson moved from the R-D1 to R-D1's they decided they would not export to Europe (including the UK) and the USA. Robert White persuaded them to let him import into the UK.

Uwe, that would be great. The RD-1s production stop news is quite a pitty though. I hope Robert White will keep some in stock untill august, because at this point his prices are a bit out of my league (just bought a 24-70 f/2.8 for my 5D, and a trip to poland upcomming).. If he runs out of stock the M8 will be my only refuge (well, wouldn't be that bad either ;))..

I'll send Foto Boom (we do have a company in the netherlands with exactly the same name, only it means tree here), I hope they do speak english, my spanish is even more rusty than my german or french.

Hi Simon,

Drop me a PM if you need any help. I'm located in Barcelona, Spain. I've bought stuff from fotoboom before. They're ok.

Also, you might want to check here. I did the same for Spain and the next day I received several quotes from different local dealers.

I bought mine also from Robert White and shipped with FedEx.
Where ever you buy just make sure that it will not be send by TNT.
Just received my Epson Image tank from Japan, (shipped to the Netherlands)
but it was held by TNT for 12 days and the item was not trackable.
UPS and FedEx don't even take half a day for customs.
You'll love the RD-1, since I have mine, my Olympus E1 stays home quite a bit
and nothing wrong with that cam.
