One thing about my M3 that's made me unhappy with my M6...

... the windows! I'm always cleaning fingerprints off my M6 windows, but I never get them on my M3 - I'm sure it's because of the "frames".

Will an M3 top fit an M6? I know an M4, M4-2 or M4-P top will, but I'm not sure if the slight window recess will do the same thing.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the M6 is 1mm taller than the older Ms to make room for the meter, but I don't know if this is in the top plate or the chassis...

The goal here isn't to buy a new body!

Wear white cotton gloves?

I have the same "problem". I seem incapable of taking the camera out of the bag without getting fingerprints on the window.

The different rewind levers could be a problem!

D'oh! Forgot about that one...

I do have an m4-P top plate here that has the recessed windows, maybe I should try that. Hmmm.

Maybe it is the observed flare of the viewfinder in the M6 and not dirt. The M3 has a differently designed finder than the M6.

I think you're remembering the M6 TTL and M7, which are 2mm higher. M6 classic is the same as the previous models in height.

In a word - Yes!

Really? What's involved?

I know about your M4/M6 (you sent me pics last year), but this is the first time I've heard it about the M3.

...i carry a hanky in my breastpocket just to wipe the windows..and when i get tired of all the wiping..i revert back to an SLR..

The conversion would involve changing the slanted RW mechanism on the M6 to the M3/2/P knob style and you would need to recover the camera with coverings designed for an M3 - that's it.

Contact Don Goldberg ("DAG") for more information - he did both of my frankenleicas.

It might fit (at least once you trimmed the leatherette covering to allow for the fins that extend around the top 1/3 of the lens mount) but you would need to purchase and install an MP pull-up-type rewind assembly (because the M3 top plate isn't angled for the crank) and plug up the "M" flash synch hole in back. Seems like a lot to go through just to avoid training yourself to keep your thumb off the finder window

This is a big problem with my LHSA MP3; don't know about the MP. It really pisses me off as it greatly reduces visibility, especially in low light situations. I've started carrying an optical cloth and lens cleaner to fix the problem. But no sooner do I clean my windows than - bam - they have goopy fingerprint oil on them all over again. There must be some kind of optical coating to rememdy this problem, but I don't know what it is.

I don't know, but are you shooting while you're eating (joke)
It never be an issue for me from M6 non-ttl to M6 ttl to M7 in finally to MP, okay once a day when I shoot a lot okay, it may happens. But seem not like you guys....

It may be the way you're holding you camera, like aizan said be more carefull, and I'm adding keep your hand off from the left side, I use my right hand to hold the camera and my left are standing near the lens to adjust the focus ring and the aperture ring. I never hold my camera with both hands on each side!

I suggest to use these little sport hanky that can be attach easily to the neck strap!
