Another "looking for 50mm lens" thred

hm...Iwould love to go on flickr at this time and look at images taken when the hexanon so i can get an idea of its characteristics but thanks to the great firewall of china, flickr is not available here anymore

I'll second the suggestion to go with the Hexanon. It's built to Leica standards, but at Voigtlander prices. I've a hunch that Konica designed it for mere bragging rights..

There's a built-in pull-out shade, smoothest focussing ever, and very sweet click stops for the apertures (full and half stops). Ten aperture blades placed almost bang in the middle of the 6 elements. The instruction booklet goes into length about why the lens is designed this way. Sharpness is real, i.e. comes from resolution, not from exagerated contrast. Handles difficult lighting situations with ease:

What else could anyone want?

Okay, so you said you don't want to go with any Russian lenses. I recently purchased a Jupiter 3, 50mm 1.5 and it focuses down to about 0.7m(ish). I must say that I'm thrilled with it. The quality of the image and the lens itself is great. The price was also outstanding. $80. Might be worth looking into?

Just my 2 cents worth,

Kevin

basically I didnt want to go the russian route because I dont really have time to sample lenses nor am I too interested in doing it, thanks for the comment though, I never tried looking for russian lenses here....

the hexanon looks pretty interesting, when I look at peoples color photos the images look kind of on the dull side, tones are very muted and what not, but then again that could just be a scanning or editing thing, I saw a few that looked nice and sparkly, maybe I will look into one, seems like a better choice then the zeiss because the hexanon is already out side of my budget so I will have to scrape together to see if I can pull it off....

Now a clean J-3 has a chance ... ?
I compared such a lens to Summicron, Nikkor and Zeiss 50mm lenses, and people here chose it's photos as looking very nice.

Some time ago, the seller fotohauspreim had some 50/2.0 Hexanons on the German bay. BIN 299 €.
You could ask them if they still have some available: info at preim,ac
Good luck!

Best regards,
Uwe

Go for the Hexanon- $310 is a deal- and if it turns out you don't like it you can almost certainly make that back on it throught the classifieds here.

Whoops- sold. Didn't mean to rub it in, sorry

Yup, swung and I missed, so now loking at the alternatives, was checking out the canon 50 18's on ebay but they seem to be shooting up in price fast despite the price guide showing about 100 dollars they are already at 150, that crazy ebay...anyone know anywhere else that is good for picking up a canon 1.8? I will also look for a j3 I guess, might as well have a look

didn't read the whole thread, so if this has been said already then i apologize...

but since everyone is recommending an m-hexanon (which i'll easily agree with), may i suggest a truly cheap alternative. a hexanon ar, 50/1.4 or 1.7.. so cheap you'll get the lens, and a body (personally i prefer the old mechanical tanks, t or t3) for just a few $10's. optical performance nothing short of excellency, but the camera format (slr) undenyably a letdown. still, if you're saving for the leica fifty, it's well worth a try (imo), and it shouldn't cost you (much) more than a russian fifty...

my .02...

and if you think this was the lamest suggestion ever... well... maybe it was 😉
