I've just noticed that the blinking ISO reading, normally visible when I power up my M7, is not working. All other electronics seem OK. DX coding is working and the blinking lower button warning light is OK as well. I've tried a couple different rolls, same problem, so it's not the canister. I've also replaced the batteries. Any ideas?

I assume you mean the reading of the DX value on the cassette? It blinks? (I pretty much ignore the LEDs in my M7 except when checking on shutter speed.) Does this happen with more than one cassette? I read somwhere that most DX read problems in the M7 are cassette issues, not camera issues.

Peter,
I've checked a couple different cassettes w/the same result. Normally the film speed shows in the finder for the first 4 seconds after turning the camera on. This is what's not working. I use that feature frequently - cause I can never remember what film I have loaded. All the other displays seem to be fine.

Yes I know the feature. You presumably are using a film in the cam right now. When the film is done, check a couple of cassettes from different film companies to make absolutely sure it's the cam. It is odd though because you say that DX appears to be working. It sounds like it might be the camera but to get a second opinion ask at the German Leica forum (you'll have to register first):

Just checked back and noticed the recent responses. The problem has gotten worse. I think there must be a short somewhere. The DX coding is definitely not working, the meter seems to default back to 100 ISO, no matter what film is loaded, and the batteries are draining continuously. I talked to Sherry K. this morning. She suspects a short as well. I'll be sending it to her this week. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks, Dan
