0.95 Prices are amazing!

Well, as I`ve always said, these are $800 lenses tops.........I know some people personally who have bought these with both caps and film conversion rings and stuff STILL IN THE BOX!!!! for even cheaper than that (and he`s a passionate Canon collector so the lens WILL NEVER BE USED!!!!)

It`s a lens you DON`T buy online, (you try to find one privately)

I`ve always wanted one to convert to Leica M mount, but it`s not worth more than $600 to me and then tacking the conversion costs I`ll have nearly $1,000 into it.

That little bit of extra speed it just is`nt worth it for me and my shooting film, I`m sure for the work I do the Canon f1.2 will work just fine....the 0.95 is really just a novelity lens with a whole bunch of useless hype jacked up about it.

From all the examples out there, I`ve only seen a handful of photographers who can really shoot decent images with them, it`s not worth all that cash people throw at them. (but like anything else the market goes up and down, 6 months ago I saw mint/boxed Nikkor SC F1.4`s selling for $800 to $1,000 - now their back down to $400/$600 - the 0.95 will come down again as well)

I can buy almost (3 or 4) "wartime" Leica bodies with $2k or one really nice IIIC K Grey, that honestly to me is money well spent, but then again, to each his own....one man`s sirloin steak is another man`s poison. 😉

PS: Ohh and why someone would pay $1,100 for a TV lens is beyond me, that`s a $450 lens, all the work and time that goes into the camera mounted conversion and in staying in it`s TV version it`s worthless untill it`s converted......

Yes, the TV lens really blew me away! The situation really amazes me - with the drop in Noctilux prices the spread between it and the RF version is as little as $1500....😕
 
Noctilux lenses dropped from the $5K - $6K range last summer to $3K (with a little patience) - $4K (January this year).

Ebay, completed listings. Just out of curiosity I check from time to time and in January this year, three were sold in the $3.3K to $3.5K range, two or so around $4k and one (newest version with box, papers etc complete) for > $5K. Some listed for >5K or higher didn't sell.

Back in 2002 or so you buy a used Noctilux for around $2,000, sometimes less if you found a beater.

I know .... prices went up steeply since then. 😡 I think they were still below $3000 two years ago (when I bought my first Leica), should have bought a Noctilux at that time 😱

I don't think so - I know of another one sold recently for $2k - though converted to M Mount. And like I pointed out, even the TV has gone for over a thousand recently.

I think this is a case of a lens coming into its own due to digital, but these prices are surprising none the less...
 
I think everyone should just buy a ZM Sonnar then realize it's fast enough and looks better(IMO), is smaller (NOT IMO) and is more versatile and then put an end to all this fast/bokeh overpriced shenanigans.

Here on Keh, you can have a Noctilux from a reputable seller for $3520. It has been quite a while since the last time the Noctilux had reached this price point.

Furthermore, I have never seen so many Noctilux for sale before: they are now everywhere. There has been too much speculation around this lens recently and its price had reached insane levels. The release of a faster successor is bringing back the price to more normal levels, so the speculators are getting them out of the vaults.

Yeah, but this is for a "bargain" version. Five other Noctilux's on the KEH website, in excellent or better condition, are going from between $5,000 - $5,800. I still see no evidence that Noctilux prices have dropped.

Of course they have dropped. It only makes sense they would, they were run up in the summer before the economy tanked ( remember when a dealer was buying every one in sight and then trying to get $10k for them?) and now there is a correction.

It was pointed out that several have gone in the mid $3k range on ebay recently and then there is the one on KEH - which has been there for weeks. Note that the later more expensive ones at KEH are not moving quickly either, as far as I have noticed. A KEH bargain rated lens would have gone for significantly more than $3500 six months ago.

That's the G1 effect. People are beginning to realize that the Canon is a much better lens than suggested by its reputation. With the accurate focusing allowed by the G1, the Canon Dream delivers pictures which are actually quite good for an equivalent 100mm F/0.95 lens. I bet prices will increase even more when Olympus releases its compact EVIL camera with built-in stabilization.
