I'm at the point where I want a magnifier on my M6 (0.72 finder) for use with my 75/1.4. The minimal 75mm framelines I think might get lost without the 50mm frame.

From my guestimate seems probable the 50mm is kinda full frame like the 28 framelines (unusable), but might still be visable by eye by scanning left-right and top-bottom.

I got a line on a used 1.25X in demo condition, but the price on the 1.40X is $349.00 (ouch).

BTW I need to limit my Leica kit to two lenses. My other lense is a 35/2.0 V.4.

Thanx

Hello, I also use the 75mm Summilux and the 35mm Summicron v.4 - what a lovely two lens Mandler combo.

Anyway, I use the 1.25x magnifier on my Leica M4-P - it works fine for me to see the 75mm frameline corners. I wouldn't spend $350 on any magnifier. They are so small and easy to lose. When not in use, I keep mine in a Fujifilm translucent film canister with a bit of bubble wrap to keep it from knocking about.

Have fun in the dim winter light!

I have seen same (same looking, maybe same) in some European seller (Canoshop?) with mentioned 'good quality'. I suppose it was this product: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190253256774

I am interested to get magnification ratio exact 1:1 to Leica finder. Perhaps it is not very high valued to order from eyeglass shop needed lenses (I think magnifier have 2 lens) and DIY rest.

1/0,85=1,1765

If you are referring here to the 1.25x magnifier, then I think that you are overestimating the magnification that you will get. I use a 1.25x on my .85x finder. With this combination, the 50mm framelines are very near the edges of the VF (very similar placement to the 35mm framelines in the regular .85x VF or to the 28mm framelines in a .72x finder). On your .72x finder, the 1.25x magnifier will give you an effective VF magnification of .9x (lower than the 1.06x that the 1.25x finder gives on an 0.85x VF).

There's no question that a magnifier will help you in focussing the 75/1.4. I will tell you that I bought the 1.25x magnifier for use with precisely this lens. But I bought it because I wanted to increase the magnification of my .85x VF (and I do have very good eyesight). Bearing in mind that I have never used the new 1.4x magnifier, I can see a real advantage to the 1.4x over the 1.25x if you are going to be using the 75/1.4 with a .72x finder. Of course, $349 is a great deal of money to be spending on such a small item. And the 1.25x magnifier will certainly enhance your use of the 75/1.4. So it's a tough decision. Good luck.

I use 35/75/m6 with the 1.25 magnifier. Without glasses, on the M6 x 1.25, you can just about still see the 35mm framelines, so I don't always have to remove it when switching lenses. I only use the magnifier for close-up controlled situations, though.

Roland.

Thanks for all the responses.

Although $349.00 is a lot to spend, in the end and longer term, I will regret cheating myself if I go cheap. I admit I'm badly spoiled. but I work hard. Thanks to this forum, I've made some wise decisions.

I now still have a bad case of GAS, and it is highly likely this Thursday, when I get paid, I'll get the 1.40X. I can justify getting gouged because I received great deals on the body and the two used lenses. Both lenses are in Demo like condition and are both made in Germany. The M6 is a second version 1987 Wetzlar prototype with a Ti top-plate that predates the Ti M6 by five years.

So far my Leica two-lense kit is only a little more than the price of a new MP.

Friday I'll report back about the 1.40X. B&H has them is stock. Thanks again.
