If I'd have to pay $1 monthly for every site I visit I'd start cutting number of sites I visit. Not that $1 is big money or I don't like to support someone doing good job but when I have to pay I quickly sort out what's relevant for me and what's not. Yes, I waste part of my time online and paying for it would help me to recover my precious time. So $1/mo is great idea. Also site runners would get idea how they do rank. But then realize, sometimes people save on good things to waste on needless evil. World isn't perfect.

HSG, I just visited LL and saw what you are talking about. There is advertising on the site from outside vendors, which, if one clicks through, nets LL some pennies for every click. I understand your frustration. I used to read Micheal's site fairly regularly, but don't anymore. He, his work, his thoughts, and writing, respectfully, aren't my cup of tea.

A lot has been posted here. I think we should just leave it at that. One can choose whatever sites they would like to visit. Paid or not. The world is a big place and there are many who write on photography a whole lot better then Michael Reichman. Search and you will find your inspiration.
