Body, film and developer are easy for me: M6, Tri-X, Xtol. Where it becomes difficult is choosing the lens: 35mm or 50mm Summilux. Since I can only choose one, today I would take the 35.

Shooter of Film...
I gave an answer for B&W earlier now here's one for color...
Nikon FE
Tamron 28-70mm 3.5
Velvia 50 (the original stuff)
E-6 (or whatever they used...)
Took a ton of shots with this combo...

Uhmm.. but I think it's too strict of a limitation. I like film cameras just because you can change film (digital cameras have just one sensor and you can't change it)

I'd go 135 film:>
MP; 50/1,4 Summilux ASPH; Tri-X; Rodinal 50:1
Tough to choose between formats, focal lengths and developers...

OM-3Ti, Zuiko 55/1.2, Tri-x and Rodinal 1:100. Camera and lens are a tough choice, film and developer isn't at all.

Contax G1 with 45mm lens loaded with Fuji Acros 100 souped in Xtol. Now that's a killer combo. Made me smile everytime I looked at the negs for years.

Not hypothetical or an exercise necessarily. A lot of photographers work his way.
The best ones anyway.

Some of us are having a problem choosing between colors and B&W. I don't. To me, if I have to see only B&W photographs from now on, I'd be ok.
Film that is
I'll always have one digital camera with me.

While I love my Mamiya 6, the Leica would be the last camera standing. Unobtrusive and fast.

Nikon F2, 50mm/f1.4 lens.
TMax 400 in Xtol 1:1
Being practical I would choose the above set up as the most versatile that I own. Not my most used camera or film however.
IMO:
Most versatile format: 35mm
Most versatile focal length: 50mm (or 35mm)
Most versatile camera type: SLR (in 35mm cameras)
One of the best 35mm SLRs for durability: Nikon F2
Great all around film: TMax 400
Best developer to get the most out of a film in a variety of situations: XTol

- Leica M (a metered body would be nice)
- 1.4/35 Summilux-ASPH or another good 35
- Tri-X
- XTOL, because you can use it for normal development or push processing to 1250/1600asa
