...3000 miles driven, man do I need some good sleep.

So, did I miss anything?

I have loads of rambling and ponderings stored up, but no energy to share right now.

At least not all of them...

I only shot 4 or 5 rolls with my M6, but wow did I love using that camera.....

The rest were taken with my EOS 10s, bought new in 1990 when I was 24. I studied all my options and had pains over buying this camera. It has been a good friend thought, and I proved this last week yet again, I choose well 15 years ago. This is a nice camera to use too.

I shot 20ish rolls of film..... man do I have to think about going digital.

Don't vacation in a hurricane. We drove through the remnants of Cindy on our way down to Kentucky. Dennis made land fall in Florida, traveled to southern Indiana and Western Kentucky and just sat there for 5 days, my 5 days. No loss, we did lots and made the best of a damp week.

I took my Hasselblad too hoping to get some time with it. She stayed packed away though with all the rain.

Good to be back home.

Welcome back, Ralph! I've been taking lots of rolls with my new M6 too, and love using this camera. Did you shoot a mix of colour and B+W?

Welcome back Ralph. Post some of those shots when you can.

Frank, all the film I shot with the SLR was color. I haven't counted but that is 17 or 18 rolls. Chasing around 5 and 6 year olds that was the easy choice. I only took one lens, the 28-105 USM II and only used the on board flash to add a little light when I thought I needed too. Interestingly, I did shoot a lot of low light/available light subjects with it with very slow shutter speeds. I don't know how they will come out, but I couldn't loose that RF style.

The M6 shot only B&W. The National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green was great to visit. Lots of curves and interesting light. I clearly slowed down and worked more on my images when using the M6.

Hey, General Patton shot a Leica. I have pictures of it from the Patton Military Museum at Fort Knox. The model isn't identified and it is in rough shape from being dragged around Europe in a tank. I couldn't read the serial number. His lenses are well used too, a Summar, Summitar and an old Astigmat (?). A 135 or 90, it was sitting front element down in the case.

No RD-1 Joe, and I doubt I will be shooting with it enough to justify a digital SLR. I liked, but wasn't blown away by my brother's brand new Canon G6. Maybe I will buy a dedicated film scanner.

I am glad to hear you had a good trip, Ralph. Post some photos when they are available. I am particularly curious about the corvette museum...

Ray, worth a trip to Bowling Green (but fly down, don't drive).

Right across the road is the General Motors Corvette assembly plant. I would have loved to tour that too, but I had no allies and two board wives to contend with.

I'm a new guy here, but I wanted to say it sounds like you had a great trip, and I'm looking forward to the photos.

A dedicated film scanner is a great idea if you shoot a lot of film. I bought a Minolta Dual Scan IV a few months ago new from Amazon for just over $200 shipped. The image quality is great, and I use the bundled software w/ Mac OS 10.3 & 10.4. It has already paid for itself.

If you want to see some examples, all the (3) images in my gallery here were scanned with it, along w/ over 60 on my Film Blog.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM, or email me.

Thanks Dave and welcome to the group. I currently have a flat bed and get ok results with that. I have to admit that I should invest a little more time perfecting the use of that before getting a film scanner, but that is not always the way I do things. 🙂

I actually have 6 or 7 rolls of B&W which I processed before vacation that need to be scanned. I may spend some time tomorrow doing that so I don't get too backed up when the vacation film arrives. I guess a trip to the processor is in order tomorrow to drop off the film too. I don't know that I want to ship it off to be processed through the mail.

Too bad they couldn't be as well behaved as the children 😉. We went with my brother and his family. Rented a mini-van, brand new Nissan Quest. Nice vehicle, I am not ready for one, but it did the job. It was pretty close to brand new when we picked it up. 10 days of driving and 3000 miles broke it in pretty good. We did not abuse or miss use it at all, but it is amazing how messed up it got lugging around 6 people all that way. It will need a complete cleaning before it goes out again.

So, has anyone photographed in caves before? I was quite surprised that by keeping to the lighted details I was able to get decent meter readings with 400 speed film. There was really no way to photograph an entire cave at once, they were too big!!! Mammouth Cave is the largest cave system in the world I believe, some of the rooms are huge. Very well run by the national park service.
