And this one was shot with a 400mm f4. However, I wish I had a 600mm and flash so I could crop all but the head, and put a little catch light in his eye. You won't get this relaxed pose with a rangefinder at close range with anything that isn't stuffed 🙂

Both photos obviously don't count, and I haven't voted for either in the white bird category.

Fire Hydrant

Fire Hydrant

Still on topic, this was a test shot with a newly aquired FED-2e, with a Pentax 35mm/f3.5, M42 on an adapter. Taken from about 2 meters to check close focus accuracy. This is slightly cropped to eliminate an obvious shutter shading problem, (easily fixed on these FSU cameras). I like tinkering with these things. 😉

P.S. -- I really like the OT shot posted by Stephen of the bird snoozing with an eye open. It is that capability that makes my slrs worth keeping.

Where do you get one of those adapters? I've actually got a 28mm M42 lens from a Praktica SLR. Does the focus couple?

cheers!

Haha, fun that some pics here include a 'taken with now Oscar's' (camera|lens) 🙂 Who said something about GAS ?

Ok, let's go.

I have a hydrant photo...I have just been too lazy to resize it and upload it! I will try to get around to it later...

Hi Vladhed,

Doug answered your question about focusing. These adapters only get the lens onto the camera with the appropriate lens flange to film plane distance. The lens must be scale focused using the distance markings on the lens. This works very well with 35mm and wider lenses. Also works for longer focal lengths, but requires very close and accurate estimating of subject distance. I have a few shots with a 400mm set-up and it did not work very well.

I got the adapter on ebay from some guy in Macau, (wherever that is).

Regards, Paul C.

And here is one of at least two hats. To be honest, I don't think these are rangefinder shots, but had they been taken in the last year, they would have been. Does that count? Probably not...
