Did a bit of searching but came up with nothing —*where can I buy 100ft rolls (specifically Tri-X or HP5+) in Paris?

Given the increasing price of film, I've been considering bulk loading for quite a while now. Just bought a dark bag and a loader, so all that's left is to find film and a few labs that'll supply me with empty cartridges (Négatif+, the lab where I get my film developed and scanned, can't because their automated machines destroy the cartridges when they unload the film)…if anyone has any suggestions for that as well….

Tri-X in 100ft is considerably more expensive than single rolls.
HP5+ in 100ft rolls - and also cartridges - can be bought from macodirect and fotoimpex in Germany.
A few dealers also sell 50 roll pro packs of Hp5+ and FP4+ for the same price a bulk loaded 36exp roll and a cartridge of film cost (assuming the cartridge is reused five times).

I'm not sure what the prices of film are where you are, but I checked into the same thing here in the US, and there was no cost savings at all if I bought the film from Freestyle (which currently has a sale going on of 20% off on Tri-X). It made more sense to just buy it already rolled up as 24 or 36 exposure cartridges.

Word of warning, I doubt you'll be able to recycle pre-rolled cassettes, since how they're assembled virtually requires them to be destroyed to open them. My personal recommendation is to use the Kalt plastic cassettes.

Is the price of film increasing?
I think I pay something like €4,30 for Tri-x 135-36
That's not much more than I paid in the past.
100ft rolls + cassettes + the extra risk of scratches is not really cheaper imho.

The price of Tri-X in Paris is hovering around €4.80, which is about the same as in HK (~HKD50), but my lab in HK warned me that the prices for both HP5+ and Tri-X would increase soon —*they were just holding off on raising sales prices until they ran out of the old stock.

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind.

Well I was hoping to source them from labs that just cut the end of the film instead of opening the cassette, so I could tape the fresh film onto the tail of the old stuff.

The only French shop I know is Photostock.fr
If you want a cheap cubic 400-speed film I'd go with Rollei 400 or Kentmere 400. Both are pretty cheap.

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind.

Yes, the whole process, and the many risks, of bulk rolling were rather off-putting, but I thought that if I could save "enough" money in doing so as opposed to buying in rolls, it'd be worth it. Guess it's not. It's hanging around €4.80 here.

Thanks for the comments everyone —*I guess I'll hold off on bulk rolling for the time being.

you can just tape on the new film to end of the old leader, no need to open the cassette.
i tape top and bottom with 3m magictape.
most photo labs will happily give you a big bag of old cassettes, no need to buy them at all.

i buy from bh or freestyle in usa

I bought 100' of Kentmere 400 for $60 in Toronto, Canada, last week.
The price here for a 24 exp is $4,75.
All prices before taxes.
14 rolls (24 exp.) would equal my price.
I should easily get 18 films of 36 exposures.
So there is a saving..
I have stocked film cartridges for ages..
I am surprised a city like Paris does not have!
Germany does.
Write Ilford direct.
