Ricoh Co., Ltd. has announced it is holding the Tenth Ricoh Photo Contest
for photos taken with Ricoh compact digital cameras (application period: To
August 31, 2010). The theme for the contest will be “My view”
Now being held for the tenth time, the Ricoh Photo Contest was created in
June 2004 as an activity to promote communication and picture taking
through the participation of a wide range of customers who enjoy
photography. With this contest we are also seeking to develop the Ricoh
concept of Candid Photo Culture, the essence of which is to “carry your
camera with you and enjoy the photographs lightheartedly taken.”
The contest theme of “My view” embodies the message that “By just changing
your angle of view, you make the world an infinitely interesting place.”
>From photographers both inside and outside Japan, we are looking forward to
receiving images of diverse subjects photographed with a free sensibility
from new perspectives.
Prize winners will be selected by two photographers active in the forefront
of the field: Ryo Ohwada and Kazuyuki Okajima.
Photos are submitted via the contest website, and a total of 50 will be
chosen as winners, including a grand prize winner. The winners will be
exhibited on the Ricoh website (starting around early November). The
contest website handles submissions from overseas as well as Japan with
information in Japanese, English, German, and Chinese.
The winning photographs will be printed in "poster size" (457 x 560 mm) and
displayed at a planned photo exhibit. In addition, the "2011 Ricoh Photo
Calendar" will be created using 13 photographs (cover included) selected
from among the winners.
Ricoh hopes that the Photo Contest will serve as an opportunity for people
to enjoy photography and make new discoveries. We look forward to receiving
many entries.

I suggest that you check out the past winners and you will see where the real disappointment is.

That's truly unfair - to set up requirement
>For the image data, the minimum size is 3 MB.
who produced digital camera which outputs 1GB files at largest resolution and best quality? Answer is Ricoh made it, and now they reject their own camera?
I realize they want to make large prints of winning pictures, but that is not good idea to accept pictures from new cameras only.

Not to say anything too bad, but the winning photographs from previous years seem to indicate that Ricoh did not yet reach beyond "family P&S amateur photographer" level ...
And when you come to think of it - you get a second P&S (probably very similar) to the one which you already (have to) have in the best case ...

Their website lists several cameras in "Professional" section.

Congratulations on your winning photograph.
As for the comments regarding the rules of entry: Kodak held photography contests to showcase their then newish line of Ektar film. The contest entries HAD to be taken with Ektar 25, 125, or 1000. No one complained that Tri-X or Kodacolor could not be entered. Contests run by companies are typically done for publicity of a product line. Next year- maybe I'll use the Ricoh CX-1. Unless they limit entries to film cameras, then I will use the Ricoh 500.
