Can anyone tell me whether 110 film is easy to find in Japan, and how much I should expect to pay for processing & scanning?

I thought 110 film had been out of production since 2009, but SuperHeadz seems to be making new 110 cameras, so there must be new film coming from somewhere.

I'm going to Japan for two weeks in early April and, although most of my holiday snaps will be digital, it seems like a great opportunity to give Pentax Auto 110 kit a bit of a workout.

The only thing that's putting me off is the though of paying more than $25 per roll to have the expired film processed back home in Melbourne, so if anyone knows of a lab in Australia that will develop and scan 100 cheaply I'd love to hear about it!

If you are in to your own processing, I have from time to time seen 110 reels show up on ebay. I have even seen 110 film holders for Omega LF enlargers. Go figure.

BTW, welcome back to RFF as this seems to be only your 3rd post.

A lot of drug stores here in the states sometimes have 110 film that is NOS, I don't know about where you are.

If it's C-41 110 film any regular one hour lab can do it providing they have temporary cartridges and a changing bag. It shouldn't cost more than the few dollars a 35mm roll does. You just need to find a lab employee willing to do it, or ask to do it yourself (just a matter of putting the cartridge and the 110 film inside the changing bag and ripping the film outta the 110 cassette and placing it in the cartridge then taping it to a leader card)

The only issue would be getting prints. If you have an Epson flat bed there are people who make negative carriers that will snap into the ones included with some Epson perfections.

Good luck, hope to see you post some results eventually.

It's been about a year....

I bought 110 film from www.frugalphotographer.com. Seems it was Fuji.

Also, I was informed at that time that 110 film was still being produced and package by an italian company Ferriania (SP?).

At that time I could send 110 for processing from Kits (now closed locally. I think that some places that do one hour or send out have access to 110 processing. Took me about a ten day to two week turn around.

I don't DIY film processing, so can't help you with that.

Ferrania shut down their 110 film production some two or three years ago - if there is any still about that may be old stock left at distributors or returning from dealers.

Horsham Colour is a Pro Lab in Victoria. They work on mail in/mail out.
They won't be cheap but they are not outrageously expensive either. Give them a call and see what they can do.

Thanks everyone for your replies so far. I'll probably be taking my Auto 100 and the three cartridges I have - it's so tiny I might as well.

I'm hoping that I'll be able to pick up a couple more cartridges during trip if I need them, and then get the whole lot developed and scanned during my last coupe of days in Tokyo.

I'm sure with a bit of asking around I'll find a local lab that can develop for a decent price, but my scanner is in storage at the moment, and I'll want my holiday snaps on Facebook quickly 🙂 I'm not planning to develop it myself - I'm sticking to Diafine for the time being.

oftheherd - I've never been away, I'm just a bit of a lurker. 🙂

MC JC86 - Thanks for the tip on the snap-in carriers for Epson Perfections. I have a 4490, although I can't see myself shooting enough 110 to make it worthwhile. I was thinking about sticking the negs straight on the scanner glass.

Sure thing... I have a bag of the stuff in my freezer, after this post I almost feel like snapping a "roll" in and playing around.
