12586 vented hood gone bad

My 12586 hood for the 50 LUX was always a little difficult to put on & off, but now I can't put it back on anymore: The two buttons that used to make the 8 little teeth retract have no feel in them anymore, the teeth stay exposed. Does anyone recognize this problem and, more important, is there a simple remedy?

I never saw this happen with any of my Leica hoods. DAG may know of a fix, but you may need a new hood.
