127 Film Day - July 12th - POST YOUR IMAGES!

Rick's re-enactment photo is reminiscent of the roll of 127 negatives of my grandfather's time in service, during WW 1. My favorite is this one, taken in late 1917 before he shipped out, of my grandfather and his youngest brother. My uncle Nick came along late, born in 1912; though there was 21 years age difference between them, my grandfather and Nick were close throughout their lives.

That's a wonderful family photo!

I was dressed in a similar fashion as your grandfather while shooting that VPK that weekend.

Thanks! That's a great picture as well. Coincidentally, my dad had a later Graflex SLR that his brother bought for him when he returned from WW2 service. He used it quite a bit for about a decade; 4x5 negatives abruptly stopped in 1957, the point at which my sister and I turned 4 and we were moving too fast for him to successfully use the camera. Someday, I'll drag it out of the closet and try to figure out how to use it (something I've said for the better part of 50 years now.)

I am still trying to fully master the camera as well;

• Push down mirror,
• Wind curtain to the wanted slit width and set the spring tension to get the shutter speed you want
• check focus and composition at wide-open,
• Stop down lens,
• Remove dark slide,
  
• Take the shot

Right, ordered some fresh 127 from Maco. Time to run another roll through that VPK.

I love photos like these! Thank you for sharing, not only is it a fond memory of your own past and experiences, but also a reminder of the times when all my changes occurred, some not so good, but most that are wonderful to remember.🙂

Yes, the place where that image was taken later became part of Tom Clancy's estate! Of course, the year that image was taken, probably 1961, was long before Clancy acquired the property.

So, thats 's interesting tidbit of information for you related to that 127 image taken long ago!

Summer Camp Culture! That is a pretty comprehensive site, who knew?🙂

I would have never guessed the camp in your image was connected in anyway to Thomas Wolfe. Very interesting indeed.

It just occurred to me that we don't see many images of summer camp adventures, or maybe I just have not paid attention. I remember them quite well, but we never had a camera to take, nor give to our own kids to use. Not sure why...

I wish I had taken a lot of pictures growing up!🙂

Hi,
What's impressive about it comes in the Focal Guide to it which has a lot of good to excellent sample photo's and - amazingly - one of them is marked as an official Royal Navy photo and taken during the Normandy landing.

I'd forgotten that, I've just dug my Focal Press guide out to see which one! The one on the next page was taken by James Jarche, who has some famous grandsons - here they are, with Grandad holding a Purma Special: (hope it works, it's a Pinterest link) https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/150729918750686514/?lp=true

I have all three Purmas, and as far as I know I am still the only person on Flickr to have posted anything taken with a Speed rather than a Special or Plus.

127 day arrived. It's my first one and in fact several first and almosts firsts: just my second roll of 127 used today, my first respooled 120-to-127 film (FP4 by the way), and my first roll in my "old new" Kodak No.0 Brownie from 1928-1935. A lot of things could go wrong, so I hope I can show you some usable image at the end of it! 😱

I'd forgotten today was the day. I went to shoot some cars at a Thursday cruise night and took along instead... get ready for it... my N90S.

I have a few frames left and then I can develop this weekend. Scanning will take a few days at the lab though.

As a side note, I am finding by comparing the BR images with my Hassy 503 and Leica X1, that the 127 images can hold their own!!! I am completely satisfied!😀
