I'm interested in getting a wide-angle lens and am looking into the Voigtlander 12/5.6 Aspherical. I realize this needs the m adaptor. I know this may sounds silly, but can someone just confirm that this is the right lens and adaptor before I get it.

It's the right lens and adapter but the viefinder will not be right for the RD-1,
if you're planning to use the lens with that camera.

The lens works best at 6.3 to 9.5, a rather narrow range.
Pictures are sharp in that range and the limited sensor size will mean you cut off most of the vignetting visable on film. However there may be some new vignetting due to the sensor capture rather than flim. This gets back to the developmental problems of the M8 and light not striking the sensor at right angles.

Specifically, you want the 12D finder, not the standard 12mm finder.
