135/3.5 tests

not too sure if my hands are less steady these days or if it's the lens...all shots were taken at 125th @ 3.5 wide open, in a bit of a fog.
those are ice crystals on the needles and the leaf.

Very sharp. I have not used mine...it is more of a just in case lens for me. And, I had to cover that focal length since the Canon IV has the adjustable magnification for it.

In the middle shot, I suspect your point of focus was on the far chains. It lokks like you fixed this lens!

I recently got one of these myself -- I'm looking forward to trying it out. (Mine's the all silver version.) It seems to balance quite well, surprisingly, on my IVF.

I guess I don't know the background -- was this lens out of adjustment before?

Maybe it is time for a 135mm lens test. Compare all 135mm you own. I have three right now; a Canon, a Nikon, and a Leitz.

I will try to look up what Bill M did with his 135mm lenses test. I want to see what he found, and also what you found, Joe. What are your findings?

Maybe we can pool the information in to the recnt thread by rigit about the "Three 50mm Lenses" and this way have a more focused discussion thread on LTM lenses.

My 135mm lenses would be as follows:

1. Leitz Elmar 135/4 Black (very old)
2. Leitz Elmar 135/4 Chrome (very old)
3. Leitz Elmarit 135/2.8
4. Canon 135/3.5
5. Nikon 135/3.5
6. Leitz Hektor 145/4.5

I use the first three lenses the most, with nice results.

Raid, I don't use the 135mm much on my RF's. I only have a Nikkor 135/3.5, which you already have.

I have a 135/2 canon for this focal length 😉

The SLR version is not difficult to find, and in FD mount is not outrageously priced as the 135/2 EF L lens.

Well Joe, we must need to see the same doctor. I thought I also noticed softness in the photos. I also noted fairly shallow dof; to be expected. Are these cropped much? Also, since you have the originals, are you talking about softness there? It isn't bad, nor is it consistant, so it really might just have been too much coffee or tea. How have the tests turned out where I am sure you used a tripod?

i think the softness is due to my hand (shakes) holding the camera on a cold day outside and my 55 years.
i have not tried it again on a tripod but just might.

i just shot my 4 35mm lenses on a tripod and will scan the negs soon. the negs seem sharper than what i'm getting handheld.

They certainly look good enough to me Joe, then of course with resized images sharpness is not easy to judge, you have the negs and you know how sharp they are for real 😉
