The ugly duckling. I love this lens, and very often use it on M9 and Sony A7. Mine actually has wonderful focus accuracy on the M9 at f/2.8. Please Share your images 🙂

two or three versions depending on who is describing them. Puts says the latest version (which this is) had more contrast WO and was better close up, but possibly very slightly softer on the edge.

Have had a couple copies including one I purchased last May. It works great but so big. Of course, so are the 35f1.2 or the Noktilux. I need to pack it for my next trip.

The Elmart 135mm 2.8 is the only 135mm lens that I KNOW will be accurately in focus. Those 1.4X magnifying goggles make the 90mm frame so much larger, that composition is easier also. I like pushing it further, and add my 1.25X magnifier to the viewfinder😀

My other 135mm lenses make me wonder if I have them truly in focus or not, even with a 1.25X magnifier on the camera. That includes the late 1960s Elmar, and the Apo Telyt M.

The tripod mount on the Elmarit and the Elmar help with stability, and keep the torque forces off the camera body. The Apo-Telyt lacks the tripod mount, and seems quite long and wobbly on the offset tripod mount of the camera.

Great comments, Robert. I think you are right. I don't use tripods below 500mm, so I need some speed to handhold. I really could not believe this lens hit so accurately. I have the APO also, and I miss with it pretty often.

At this shoot I had the Elmarit on the M9, 75 Lux on the A7 and a Rx1r2 at 35mm. The elmarit keeper rate was the best, to my surprise. The long throw is probably helping me LOL

Here it is on the A7 Kolari:

Is there a smoother, sweeter 135 on earth?

Sure, it's the biggest thing made for your M, or so I read, but handling is very good, and I don't think a M with Elmarit is any bigger than the average FF DSLR with a modest lens attached 🙂

I don't take it to the backcountry. APO goes on those trips. But any kind of contained shoot or walk, it's at least in the car, and often in the bag.

It's a great lens.

To my eye the colors, rendition and tonality of these shots are what I recall as being typical of this lens. Extremely nice image quality indeed. I have considered getting one but know I would probably only use it on my M8 (which is from another perspective perhaps exactly why I should get it though I like to have the luxury of using such glass on mirrorless too and I suspect that the way it looks and its relative ungainliness when so mounted might make me reluctant to do so). Not only is the image quality excellent they are by Leica standards very cheap lenses to buy.
