Re: 135 lens cheap
Joe,
That's funny, I saw that one last night - and considered posting it here also - I have two of them and paid more - dang it. Nice lenses.
Anyway, like you, I thought it was a good price on that one if it is as advertised. Be a shame if it wasn't though.
Best Regards,

this looks too good to pass up but i think 100 mm is my limit on a rf cam.
someone should consider it - btw, i'm not connected to the sale at all.

great minds bill...
so, what do think about 135 lenses for rf cams?
seems a bit unnatural to me although 100 seems fine.
i'll have to investigate this bias...

I like the 135mm length; fine for outside work. Most focus to within 5', so it gives a 50mm equivalent of less than 2'. Nice for close-up work. And, how many lenses can you pick up for $60 these days? GO FOR IT! you can always sell it for the same!

Nikon S2 (modified for Sonnar) with 13.5cm F3.5 Nikkor for the Contax. Wide-Open and close. Sandmar Finder on the S2.

The Bokeh shot cometh.
Wide-Open, close, S2 with the 13.5cm f3.5. The external finder takes a bit of getting used to, but is workable. The Sandmar finder ran me $5 at a camera show.

I don't carry a 135 much anymore, although I di d use it for the photo of the two girls at NM University in my gallery. It's nice when you happen to be out with a RF instead of an SLR and find yourself just out of normal RF range - at least you can 'do something about it'.
I like 135 just fine - and my Canons and Schachts are plenty sharp at that range - a bit hard to focus and easy to mess it up - but stopped down they're killer. It's just that I rarely find myself reaching for it, and so finally stopped carrying it most of the time.
I find the 90 much more useful for me with RF. With SLR, I find myself going to a 135 or even a 200 fairly often. I guess it's just a difference in how I 'see' when I have an RF with me vs an SLR. Funny, innit?
I went out to Fayetteville, NC today and did some shooting. Nice downtown area - will try to post some images tomorrow. Reached for my 35 mm for the first time in awhile, but it really came in handy twice - in fact, a 28 would not have gone amiss, but I hasn't got one in LTM.
I really noticed myself changing lenses - I know we all talk about our 'favorite' focal length all the time. I guess I tend to stick with gold old 50mm more often than not - but would not mind a 65 or 70, something in between a 50 and a 90.
Getting back to your point - I use these focal length lenses on my Bessa R - 135, 90, 85, 50, and 35. I use the 50 the most, followed by the 90. The rest are a distant third place tie.
That help any?

ok, i'm a crazy old bastard.
i started this damn 35mm rf journey with the intent of one camera -one lens.
now i have 2 cameras and 5 lenses.
i just hit the buy it now button for that 135 canon lens!!
so now i will have a 35/50/75/100/135 combo.
guess i might as well start looking for the canon 28 soon.

The Jupiter 13 is the best lens in the line-up so far as LTM FSU lenses ever went.
It's the least flare prone, and simply plain, sharp, and wonderful. No kinks to worry about, no "but..." and no nothing of any detracting sort. It's only f/4, and the most generally competent with or without a hood, unlike EVERY other FSU lens I've ever owned.
Go for it- 135 and rangefinders are fine.
Now the 135 equivalent in Medium Format is the 250mm, and my 250mm F/5 is something like 5 pounds...

Are you trying to get one of each?
I shouldn't talk, I have a 21/35/40/50/75. Looks like we both need a 28 and a 90.
That does look like a really nice lens, Congratulations!

Well, I haven't really looked at ebay at all this week, even for a bargin. I did add this to my bag though, which I guess is a big reason.
Oh well, off to bed I go.

I recently added a used 135 Elmar to my Leica RF collection. Some might consider the 135 a portrait lens, but I got it for two other reasons, both occasional use. First, to get a closer image of a subject that one cannot easily approach. Here's a 90mm shot of the paratrooper dummy on the church at Ste. Mere Eglise, in Normandy. If I'd had a 135, could have backed up a bit and got a better composed image, or from the same spot, a better close-up. (second reason next frame)

Second occasional use of a 135. To take advantage of the telephoto "distortion" by causing two elements separated by some distance to appear closer than they actually are. Here, I used a 50mm to capture two machine gun nests in the Argonne forest, near Verdun. If I'd had a 135 at the time, I could have backed up and minimized the too-large concrete base of the nearby nest and at the same time make it appear that the two were closer.

Congrats Joe, now you only need a Canon 7 with the 135 framelines
Must be sure interesting, but I'm still waiting for that $100 BIN on a Nikkor 85/2 LTM
the 135 frame area is too small for my taste.
Mike, that nests shot is really nice even if it's with the 50, I really like the autumn colors there.

I had a 85mm f/2 LTM on my Hexar. I sold it.
Now, of course, it's another piece of gear for which I've seller's remorse.
Got the G2 back, though, that's a touch less regret...

The R2 Joe. Leitz glass is pretty on Voigtlander bodies.
You don't believe me, I am serious, no Leicas for me.
