First of all let me explain my scoring system:

In Australia we have a game known as Aussie Rules, AFL, call it what you want but basically it’s a heap of big fit macho guys chasing an oblong ball around an oval and attempting to kick it between a uniquely arranged set of goal posts at either end (depending which direction their team is playing of course) when they get hold of it. The goal posts are unique in that there are four of them … an inner set and an outer set. If you kick the ball between the inner set it’s called a goal and your team is awarded six points … if you miss the centre set but the ball still passes between the two outers it’s known as a behind and you’re awarded one point … the team’s total score at the end of the game is thus made up of goals and behinds … are you confused yet?

In the gallery I’ve regarded a ‘view’ as a behind and a ‘comment’ as a goal … my scoring system is identical to AFL with a view being worth one point and a comment being worth six. In regard to the comments I’ve subtracted posted responses by the uploader of the judged photo for fairness.

If you don't understand all this I suspect you probably have trouble tying your shoelaces in the morning and subsequently wear slip-ons!

I wouldn’t exactly call this competition a success and I suspect that this is my fault for making the parameters a little difficult and asking for a level of commitment that may have been near impossible for many around this time of year … but hey if it was too easy we’d never get better!

I'll post the images and total scores of the top ten entries.

I would just like to add that there was an entry in the competition early on that likely would have walloped the lot of us ... but the poster chose to withdraw it unfortunately! 😕

Wow!

What a surprise!

Thank you so much, guys!

I am learning a lot here.

Best.

André

Congratulations Andre ... you have a wonderful style and having had a look at your flickr I would recommend others to do the same. Some absolutely superb, beautifully grainy black and white work there.

Long live film!

Cheers 🙂

This was very cool, Keith. I'm a beginner, and I learned a lot about the camera and lens I was using; given that I hadn't anticipated it would be a learning experience, that was an excellent outcome.

You don't know what problems I have. I have to tie my shoelaces very loose and make all my shoes slip-ons. and I still don't understand your scoring system. sigh.

Actually, nice photos. If you ever do this again, I hope to be able to participate.

Thanks for thinking it up, overseeing it, and following through.

Now, back to my shoelaces. They keep coming untied.

I was actually thinking that it would be fun to do another one of these without all the bustle of Xmas and new year to complicate it. In hindsight it wasn't really a good time to do it!

I know that I personally really enjoyed restricting myself to one camera and one lens for two weeks ... it actually put me back in touch with my M2 which I've been using fairly continuously ever since. Up until the competition it had sat on the shelf without having a roll of film put through it for almost a year ... CRIMINAL! 😛
