Voigtlander's Incredible 15-35 Multi Format Viewfinder

Announced March 2009, Estimated to Ship end of April 2009

In my opinion there is likely to be a shortage of these initially due to high demand. I'm taking $100 refundable deposits via Paypal to Stephen@CameraQuest.com for people wishing to get one out of my first shipment.

Price not yet set.

Ok I will guess. 250 to 350 bucks.

This product will make using wides less costly especially if you have a R3* or M3 and just want to use your higher magnification finder to focus and the auxiliary find to compose a la Barnack😉

thomasw_: Thanks, I appreciate the guess.

back alley: I guess I should have stated that I have read the US DISTRIBUTORS website before posting.

Thanks,
James

I got my eye on this too, would be great for my 28 and 21mm lenses. Though with the way voigtlander has been doing things lately I would say the price will be higher then we are expecting.

Avotius: True. but whats nice about the product is that they really wrapped everything into one product. I like that when I get an M8, I won't have to buy a new finder and that I can switch back and forth between film etc. $250 and under is a no brainer for me. $350-$500 makes it a hard choice.

While this sounds like an interesting and useful product, I wonder what finder brightness and magnification will be like. I've been somewhat spoiled by my CV 25mm finder. If the multifinder is comparable, then it is a winner.

I am just back from Japan and I had a chance to play with the 21-35 finder. As with all CV finders, it is incredible bright - virtually no light loss looking through it! It is a zoom finder so you dont have the "surround" of a frame line finder. It zooms in to the focal length and shows the image against a black background instead.
It has three different scales on it. The primary one, a chrome ring" shows the focal length for 24x36mm, the second scale (cut out and white numbers against a black back ground) shows a 1,3 size (M8) and the third scale shows the 1.5 magnification of a RD -1. Sound cluttered but actually worked nicely.
Some distortion at extreme wide setting (15/18 mm) but not worse than on a dedicated finder. The foot has a screw down lock on it so that it is held down securely. Not small, but better than the Leica AM/FM radio looking thing. Oh, almost forgot - it has a built in up to +2/-2 diopter adjustment on the eyepiece too!
Before you all ask - No, I don't know the price - but even so I want one! It would make my Bessa T's very useful too.
I also had the opportunity to use the coupled 15f4.5 Heliar. Very nice package - M-mount and high build quality. Feels rock solid and a 52mm filter size justifies a miss-spent youth with Nikon F's and the lenses for that. I have a lot of those 52mm fllters to put to use once the M-mount 15f4.5 makes its way to me.

It is metal - not plastic. feels very solid with a smooth action to the frame selector. The one I was was a prototype so it did not have the rubber surround for the eyepiece yet. The built in diopter control was nice - snapped the image into sharp focus when I turned it to correct for my glasses. I have been trying to come up with something that was similar in "feel" and the closest i could come to is the Zeiss multifinder for moviecameras. Better image contrast though and "bigger" image.

@ TomA: thx for then info.
Any picture of the thing mounted on a camera, just to get a better idea of its size?
Do you know the KMZ (Zorki/Kiev) turret finder ?
I took my KMZ Universal Viewfinder (28-135mm turret) and a ruler to compare and to get an impression. The KMZ turret finder was 36 x 43 x 57 mm [to compare: Voigtländer 15-35mm = 42,5 x 49,5 x 65,4 mm]

Sorry, no pictures of it on a camera. Didn't feel that big though - it is not unobtrusive - but what finder covering 15 to 35mm would be - particularly with the brightness of a VC finder!
I know of the turretfinder, the VC finder is bigger and also MUCh brighter.

Thanks for the info.

I'll admit being quite skeptical about this new CV zoom finder.

Is another bulky contraption what the RF world really need?

And no brightlines?

The whole thing goes against the spirit of the rangefinder camera.

I think this device looks amazing. It reminds me of a mini director's viewfinder, like the Alan Gordon Mark Vb.
Leo's has a bunch on order so I can't wait to see it in person. I'm betting that considering the price of a regular CV finder, this one aught to be up around $395-$495.

Strikes me as a very useful item. Particularly for those with LTM mount cameras or M2, M3. I think Mr. K has a great feel for these niche products. I bet they sell out of 'em. How many is enough for world wide demand? 7,000 units? We are a small group, after all and are lucky that someone like Mr. K is focused on meeting our RF needs.
