15 F4.5 Voigtlander lens

Kludags,
It is my opinion that no filter improves image quality. They might do other things, such as reduce flare, alter color balance, etc. Just a thought.

johne-
You don't use B+W film or try to get good color balance, I guess?
No filter threads is a crime, to me.
Is there a market for a purpose made adapter? My background is in machining, I could make a batch if there's enough demand to cover my costs. At the volume we'd be dealing in, the units would have to go for over $100...

I use a Cokin A300 bracket with an A Series filter. The bracket is a folding L shape designed to screw in to the tripod socket on the bottom of the body, and hold the filter just in front of the lens. I use it with a Bessa-L, but there are many adjustable positions for the screw, so it could be used on almost any body except a Leica 🙁 I just tried it on my M3, and the bottom bracket is not long enough to reach the tripod socket way over on the side. The only drawback I have noticed so far is that, when the light is at a certain angle behind the camera, reflections off the rear surface of the filter can appear in the image.

I use the 15/4.5 almost exclusively with B&W film (as did the fellow RRFer who sold it to me) and it gives great results. Scale focusing is not an issue, as stated above, given the magnificent depth of field. Takes some time though to get used to framing shots as it's field of view is so encompassing.

I sure wish i knew too! Home-made filter holder... nice...😛

But thanks for your input. It is true that I've always used UV filters in front of my lenses in order to protect them. I'm not quite sure I can build my own filter, the Cokin system seems quite efficient, although maybe not that discreet...

Adapting the CV 12 mm filter might me a better idea, and in the end, i can also be extremely carefull 🙂

Johne,

Thanks for your input. I do agree with you, although here it's just a matter of safety, and saving bucks for something else than repair of broken front-glass... it never happened to me, and i'm pretty sure it would have to be the result of a pretty violent shock, but well, i'm not tempted by the idea either !😉
