.

I hope I'm not putting anybody off with this thread. I'm just a college kid who went through a rough patch trying to generate interest in my work and fund an amazing trip, and I'm offering prints of the photographs I take in return for relatively small amounts of money.

I'm not put off, I think you're doing well by speaking so openly about mental health. Speaking only for myself, I don't know how to tell you the reasons you presented aren't convincing without sounding like a total a$$hole.

My reasons are I'm a photography student trying to sell some prints in order to help fund my trip. If that doesn't interest you that's fine, no harm done--and you're certainly not being an @**.

If truly desperate try selling directly to the public in your area. Make a sandwich board you can wear or stand next to. Put your images on the board and allow people to see your work.

My father sold oil paintings at gas stations to pay for our bills when I was young. I have sold images at various points in my life to offset the cost of gear.

My friend Gloria Hopkins wrote an ebook on photographic composition and sold it while she was physically unable to work.

George Forss made beautiful images of NYC and sold them on the street for next to nothing. He even shot them with an old Practica and printed in a tiny apartment bathroom. He had a brief moment of fame but I am betting he still would take to the streets if he needed to.

For others Pizza delivery/Dish washing is more efficient use of time to raise the same capital.

People are generous if you put in the work. There are many artists who struggle with mental and or physical issues and if you can speak candidly to potential buyers and and be gracious even if they offer half what you are asking, you should be able to earn some income.

Being young, you have time. Few people get it all at 23. Most work their whole lives to have a few special expenditures.

FWIW I was diagnosed with severe "treatment resistant depression" in 2014. I sympathize greatly with your journey to recovery. I know exactly what it's like.

And like you, music and photography have been extremely important for me.

Anyway, I really like your photographic style and I wish you all the best with your project. For the record, I donated. :)
