170,000 dollar Leica on ebay

And he doesn't mind taking paypal... amazing. I wonder if there's any sensitive military technology which shouldn't get into the hands of some foreign government in that thing.

Actually sounds like a fun offer. You get to fly with it. And you get to keep the results

I wonder if I could get a flight plan over all of LA and Hollywood. Imagine the paparazzi opportunities.

Oh never mind.

Considering you can pay to have a commerical satellite take high rez photos of wherever you want, I doubt it is a huge security threat these days.

Im sure you could add those on and give it a new paint job ;) I wonder what it would be like putting on the front of your car and zooming around with 500ft of film to play with..

Its not worth that kinda money the, leatherette has worn off.

"Financing available
Only $7042 per month"

Good to know this is only available for the US. I could be in financial trouble if I had found that out after bidding? :p

While former military equipment usually is export restricted, an aerial camera is not a huge security risk - after all you haver to be able to fly it over something to do anybody any good.

Some aerial cameras are export restricted or controlled. You have to request authorization to export the technology. Most of the time it is just some subsystem like an IMU or gyro stabilized mounting. Leica also makes a couple of digital aerial systems (ADS 40 is the latest). The newest Zeiss digital mapping camera is the best though (DMC). Would love to get to put one of those babies through its paces!

Hmm, I wonder if he could post some shots of that lens vs. the Voigtlander equivalent or the nonaspherical Leica version. I mean, that is quite a bit of change.

j/k It does look like it's some sort of military "surplus". US tax dollars at work; working for somebody's profit at eBay, that is...

Nah, I think he says it was for a topographic mapping service. I assume that it is a commercial venture.
