180 degrees?

I'm thinking of putting my camera skills to some use. When in Mongolia I want to take a few shots straight up while lying on my back. I want some sky-&-clouds shots that I can use to paint the ceiling of a small bed room.

Getting the ceiling painted is fine but I started to think about painting a bit of the walls as well, maybe even the whole of the walls. It would be nice if I could get some 180 degrees, half dome shots, covering a scene from ground level to straight over my head all around.

Does anyone here have a way to take such a 180 degrees shot with an RF camera, without my having to resort to expensive gear or physically impossible feats of contortionism? :)

Or am I just silly?
 
How about a tripod, rotate it on one plane only, over lap a little, and stitch the individual shots into one on Photoshop or something. Get a couple "strips" like this to capture the entire canopy of the sky from one horizon to the opposite.
 
Another option is to shoot into a christmass ball (or any ball shaped mirror for that matter). It gives a 180 degree image. The only problem is that it gets the camera in the picture as well.
