1918

My wife wept last night after the game was over - this time however they were tears of joy. This will give a great fillip to the whole of New England as the Sox are a regional team, and there is going to be a huge party in Boston to be sure. :)

The victory gives hope to others who are also trying to do the impossible like the Chicago Cubs who have been without a World Series win for longer than the Red Sox. Also a word of commiseration to St. Louis fans; you were just unfortunate to run into the Sox during a hot streak, better luck next year!

St Louis played very well indeed. They have nothing to be embarrased about!! As Peter said, they were just unlucky to meet Boston in the middle of a winning streak. It could have gone either way, like it has so many other times in the past!

BTW, how come I never see any other countries in the 'World Series' other than the USA ???? :D

When is the parade scheduled guys? Tomorrow? I am giving some considerations to going. I would only be able to be in the city for a couple hours, but it would be worth seeing the frenzy.

I would have to leave my Yankees gear home though ha?

I think it is going to be Saturday.

Don't get me started... ;)

That is what I was thinking.

Of course last night when the Police sent everyone home would have been too.

This would be an AMAZING street-photography opportunity!

I am ready to go, believe me. Take the 35mm and the 50mm and a couple of rolls of film and I'll be all set. :)

Frank to tide you over I don't know if you saw this but it was my first effort at a Red Sox crowd shot. Stephen seems to think his niece is in the picture... :)

Ahem!! Toronto Blue Jays, back to back World Series wins, 1992 & 1993 ...

Gene

I'm hoping that I can make it as well. However, due to a death in the family, need to attend a mass on Saturday or Sunday.

If its on Sunday, it would be great to meet up at some point at the parade on Saturday, if thats even possible!! With an estimated 5 million Sox fans for the parade, I doubt it would be easy unless we pinpoint an exact 10'x10' square space and time.

I know what cameras I'll bring. Just don't know what I'm gonna wear :D :D

I doubt its my niece, but man its got to be her sister then. The odds are just too great against it being her.

I'm genuinely happy for all my friends & relatives in Boston. :) They've waited a long time . . . although I really don't know anyone who's waited since 1918 . . . or even 1948. Actually, they don't seem to know how to react.

As a Yankee fan, I'm now happy as well to let them feel how it is when the shoe is on the other foot. I love to say things to them like:

"No National League team ever had a chance against you guys. You outspent all of them."

"Best team money can buy."

"You did it all with free agents. Nobody on the team came up through your farm system."

"There's a new Evil Empire in town now."

"With all the free agents you're losing, who will you go out & buy this year?"

They seem unaffected . . . lost in a fog of delerium. Congratulations to Red Sox Nation!!

Little known piece of trivia: The Red Sox are now third all time in number of World Series won!!!

And maybe the first two are the Yankees and the Cardinals in that order?

Alright Gene, North America. :) How come Cuba isn't allowed to play in the World Series - they win all the Olympic titles don't they? :D They're good, right? :D :D :D

Stephen would be great to meet up, but now I find my own participation may be at risk - apparently we have "plans" to visit someone. But, lets find out the day and route, you never know! :)

Hey, watch it John! :) I particularly like the test matches that last for several days and end in a draws. Then everyone says how marvellous the match was and I say to myself - yes- why can't a sporting event end in ambiguity like the rest of life?

Makes sense doesn't it? Why does there have to be a winner and a loser every time? Why can't we all be winners? ;)

Peter_n, Great shot, that's what I'm talking about! If only all our shots could capture emotion that well. There's obviously a Cardinal fan right in the center of the crowd and the center of your picture - that's great! One RFF member's by-line is something like "a photograph must contain at least 1 thing, the humanity of the moment" and your shot does that very well!

It's almost not fair though, at a time like this at such an event, it's kind of like spearing fish in a barrel! Tons of people filled with emotion (happiness and sadness) mostly oblivious to another baseball fan with a camera. They don't know you're really a photographer!

Just got back from the parade but didn't see Stephen there... ;)

Got a couple of good shots I think but will wait to post because the roll is being sent along with others to a lab in California for processing. It'll probably be a while before they come back.

The weather was lousy but the parade was great and the Red Sox players were clearly delighted at the reception. My camera got soaked but I kept the 35mm on all the time. Pointless to go to the 50, people were jammed up so close together that I could actually have done with a wider lens. Anyway, it was fun! :)
