1938 Contax II with faulty "foot"

I've a nice Contax II in perfect order except for it's supporting base, or foot. It has lost one of the tiny screws, so it can't be fixed in place properly. I've dismounted it, but would like find a similar screw and put this "foot" back. Do you know if there's any possibility to find a similar or suitable one. It's really really small.

The Kiev II/III has the same/similar foot, so if you find one for parts maybe? Sometimes when I’ve lost a screw and found one that had the right thread but the head is too big, I just filed it down until it fit.

Thanks, I've found him and sent a mail. I found that I've already bought him a shutter release collar for my Leica III 🙂. And also that this kind of "no head" screw is called a socket screw.

no head screw? shouldnt that be grub screws or set screws? 😱😱😱

The screw actually has a longish (3mm) for its diameter cylindrical section at the top that acts as a pivot rod for the foot (one per side.)

Ah! Then it's a stud, albeit a small one...

A real tough find. Overall length is 5.5mm, with a M1.6x2mm threaded section and an M2x3.5mm collar, roughly.

Well, Nobby Sparrow does not have this kind of screws, so probably the only way should be buying a Kiev II 😱😱😱.


Not in the inmediate future, I presume...

A railway modeller or an old fashioned watch maker/repairer ought to have a suitable lathe to make one. The spec. makes it seem straightforward...

as what was mentioned, a Kiev will be a good parts source. You can fabricate one if you know how. I have a mini lathe using a dremel, it will work but the results are not professional.

Hi,

I'm against raiding other cameras just for one part as then that camera has the problem and off we go again. Also it's expensive.

OTOH, a lot of camera repairers have an old camera that someone has abandoned and they raid them for parts. So a few emails might just find the missing bit.

I'd start with Oleg at http://okvintagecamera.com who has Kiev bits and pieces.
